Converting .jar file format to .prc format

I'd like to install <opera-mini-4.4.27461> on an older Palm TX. The downloadable file is in .jar form. How do I convert that file to a .prc file for installation on the TX?

If memory serves, what you have to do is find a JVM and install that. sad

Thanks for the reply. I have all of the JVM's installed; but I think that I need a Opera 4.4 .prc file on my PC so that I can load this final update onto my TX using the Hotsync Install Tool.

FWIW I have both the .jad and .jar file versions of Opera 4.4 downloaded to my PC but the Install Tool will only post them to the SD card and they are not visible on the SD card when I try to find them directly on the TX. It's pretty frustrating.

I've got to be missing something here; but just don't know what it is.

Hmmm.... Everyone I knew that had Palm devices moved on to different phones, so I'm not going to be able to offer much help. What do the Palm forums guys say?
There's always the possibility that Opera doesn't offer the .prc files any longer... sad

I guess not. sad I did a forum search and came up with this: http://my.opera.com/community/forums/search.dml?term=convert+.jad+.jar+files+to+.prc&username=&mode=forum&datemodifier=older&limitdate=60&disp=post&submit=+Search+&id=111&id=9 you'll have to rummage through it. Sorry.

Dennis,
That URL <http://opera-mini-4.4.27461-advanced-en-us.prc> takes me to the .jar and .jad files but not to a .prc file; which is what I need to do the install from my PC. I'm now guessing that what I need to know is there a way to convert either the .jar or .jad to a .prc file format?

Yeah, I thought so. sad You might have to wade through the forums on the search link I left there. Are there no users on the Palm forums that can help you with this conversion?

Thanks Dennis. I'm afraid the the TX has about reached the end of it's long and useful live. I really like the size and really don't need a cellphone at this point; but do use the Wi-Fi when I'm out and about. That only leaves me with larger Wi-Fi only tablets as a replacement. Oh well. :-(

sad rip TX

If you're going to get a new device - check out the Android units. If you're going to install Opera start reading the Android forums here to see what issues there are.
With the 'Droid OS you have the option of Mini, Mobile and I hear some good things about Dolphin. Of course, you could go with something Windows Mobile. left

Dennis,
Not a very high probability that I'd go with a Win Mobile device unless someone gave me one. ;-)

I've begun to consider Samsung Tabs, the Motorola (now Google) XOOM, and the Transformer Prime from ASUS. Do you have any thoughts on any of those? I expect that there will be a raft of new tablet products announced at CES at the end of this week.

*nods* Yeah, if someone gave me one I'd trade it for something in a 'droid. bigsmile
Honestly, I haven't been comparison shopping anything. Samsung has come a long way. My first web enabled phone was a Moto V180, so there'll always be a special place in my heart for Motos.
ASUS I'm not really familiar with, so... zip

I'm not inclined to get the newest gadget, simply because I don't have a lot of disposable income. Also I dread the thought of buying something and having not live up to its hype.
Let's wait til around February. Some of the dust wil have settled by then.

I got it installed but it reboots my device.

the opera mini 4 installer came up and it rebooted when i clicked accept. and it wont load/reboots automatically each time i launch.

I used the ibm midlet install tool to install the jad file

opera-mini-4.4.27461-advanced-en-us.prc/mini.jad?act=dl&tag=mini4&cert=none&region=en

It might need a cert, maybe thats why it reboots, i got to check what cert is available. cert=all doesnt work says invalid cert.

Just tried opera-mini-4.4.28684-advanced-en-us.prc/mini.jad?act=dl&tag=mini4&cert=none&region=en

cert=all or verisign or thwarte still gives error about cert error on jar file and fails to load.
