Great search management but one missing feature!

I really liked the way you implemented search engine management in the new Opera TP2. But there's one feature I really miss: The ability to move search engines up and down as you can with the languages in the detailed languages preferences.

If you for example want to add a search engine at the top in TP2, you have to delete all the existing engines, add the new one, and then add the old ones again. Complicated!

In addition, I think the user should get a warning when trying to add a search enginge without specifying a short cut. As it is now, I can right click in a search field, click "Create Search" and then "OK" thinking it should work since I've got no errors. It actually took me three tries to figure out that it was the missing short cut that was causing the problem. Or maybe you instead should let users add search engines without short cuts?

Completely agree. It would also be nice to be able to have the search created as a separate search box that can be dragged to a toolbar on its own like the default searches can.

Well.. you can do that. Just right click your personal bar and click show searches.
I guess Opera devs just forgot to add the custom-searches in the customize dialog, that will probably be fixed.
Another nice feature would be to clear the search fields after I've used my custom search, so I can see which search is which. And maybe have a dropdown in the search fields with a history of searches..

It would also be nice if could have multiple exstensible search boxes. Each with a different selection of search engines. This would allow be people to more easily maintain a large amount of engines.

There's one more thing missing: if you create a new search engine using the Preferences dialog, you can't define the encoding which Opera should use when sending the searched string to the search site.

Even tho I didn't even see the new Opera jet and I've already requested it. If it's already in there plz ignore. smile

I would like a search-box auto updater. So that the next google string typed on the page goes in the toolbar box. (Just like the google toolbar and the firefox extension)

I would like to see the first x search results opened. (Like the look ahead firefox extension)

Isn't the added search engine in the list of searches in Appearance->Buttons->Search ? Just make sure to assign a shortcut to it and it should appear there.

No, it doesn't seem to happen. I added the Onelook engine (by right-click in the search form), assigned it a shortcut of l; but it does not appear in the Appearance dialog even after a restart.

Is there any way to select the Dictionary- and the Encyclopedia search engine using the GUI? I would really appreciate that, but as far as I can see this still requires manual editing of the search.ini .

This didn't happen for me either until I used OpSed. When a search was created, it appeared below the dictionary, encyclopedia, and translate entries way at the bottom of the list. Moving them up above these entries with OpSed then restarting Opera seemed to make them appear in the Appearance->Buttons->Search section, but not before that.

This is what has brought me to the beta forums today... I does it make sense to leave this option out of the GUI?

Is there any way to get a summary of the shortcuts I've assigned to various customized search engines?

Go to Tools > Preferences > Search. The keywords should be listed next to each search.

Why when creating a search engine should we rather the encoding. To me, it doesn't make a difference
