Why late? They're not in final yet so they could probably bring it back (as an option ofcourse) almost as easily as removing it.

It has two great uses...
1. When visiting a page thats already bookmarked and I cant find it in my bookmarks menu\panel, clicking on the star takes me directly to it in the panel showing it to me.
2. Its simply convenient to add a new bookmark right from the address bar. Its right there and you have but to click it.

That's a shame, one of my favorite new features too. 9p3 needs an option for it, just have it off by default.
