Gun control

Nothing is more precious than life. The invention of guns makes it easier to take ones life. A single pull of a trigger can decide between life and death. Such lethal weapons are easily available in our society. They can be bought legally at federally owned or private gun stores, and at gun shows. There are far too many guns floating around the United States. With more than 200 million handguns produced in the United States, there is a chance that some of them may fall in the wrong hands. From time to time, sensational shootings provoke public outrage, resulting in the ratification of strict gun control laws. However, due to reactions by gun right proponents, the effectiveness of the governmental action to enforce these gun control laws is deterred. Americans have a long affection for guns based upon their heritage of hunting, sporting, and self-protection during colonial times. In addition, the United States won independence from Great Britain using the guns they possessed. Currently, according to the National Rifles Association (NRA) poll, eighty-nine percent of Americans believe they have a constitutional right to hold guns. Gun control opponents also use to argue that gun ownership is a right granted and protected by the United States Constitution, and that tough gun control laws encroach on those rights. In its entirety, the Second Amendment reads: “A well-regulated Militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.” Despite claims from people in favor of guns that it is the citizens’ right to own and carry a weapon, the right to keep and bear arms by individuals is not protected by the constitution. The Second Amendment states that it is the right for a militia to have weapons, not everyone. The constitution clearly talks about a “well-regulated Militia”. According to the Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary, a militia is a trained military force whose members do not belong to a regular army but operate like one, especially to defend their country in an emergency. Today’s version of the “well-regulated Militia” is the National Guard. The constitution means it is the right for the National Guard, the arms forces, and law enforcers to hold guns, not the civil population. Widespread gun ownership lead to an increase of gun related deaths. Even with previous gun control laws in effect, such as the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act (Brady Law), as indicated by the CDC’s WISQARS Injury Mortality Reports, there are 29,569 gun deaths in the United States in the year 2004 alone. It is the second leading cause of deaths after motor crash and, in several states (Firearm Injury Center at the University of Pennsylvania, “Gun Violence Is a Serious Economic and Public Health Problem”, Current Controversies: Guns and Violence, 2005 p. 21). Stricter gun control laws should be put into place since guns lead to deaths of young people due to unintentional gunfire, economic costs on society, and unsafe societies.

From my essay I wrote for class.

Should ordinary citizens be allowed to hold guns?

What did she do? Kill a whole flock of ducks? Why? It's arguably more humane to a hunt a couple ducks for dinner than buy a chicken that's had its beak cut off, forced to live in a cage so small that it couldn't move, force fed hormones, etc; however, there's definitely something defective in the brain of someone that feels the need to kill that much more than it's possible to eat.

Ringneck pheasants, but anyway ... we do have "bag limits" in this country, no one person would be allowed to shoot that many pheasants at once, obviously she must have had a lot of help.

l expect she needs a lot of help.

lt's strange that people can get so proud about shooting so many pheasants -- but then maybe they were armed and it was all self-defense.

Yes l know the excuses - bred to be shot , destined for the dinner table, but enjoying the mass slaughter - that's weird.

Demands on where you are.

http://www.hillendalehuntingclub.com/index.html

Our Ringneck Pheasant Hunting Season in Pennsylvania begins September 1 and continues until April 15. There is no bag limit, with the number of pheasants governed by the hunting plan a guest selects. (Please examine the rate card for options.) No license is required to hunt at Hillendale Ringneck Pheasant Hunting in Pennsylvania.

In general, you're right about bag limits, but it's possible that she went to a place like that.

I don't know any hunter that puts the hunted animals in the thrash. They give it to the family, they sell it to restaurants or offer it to people that needs.

There is nothing wrong with her brain, its the wrong view that is to blame. It is very sad when people take delight in killing — if only they knew the consequences they might think differently.

In this country it is illegal to sell game animals. Most hunter will donate it to a local foodbank so it doesn't go to waste, but they can't get any money for doing so.

It's not about eating, it's about kudos, etc. Kill a duck, kill a chicken, step on a worm. It's all misdirection. Repeat after me...

WWI
WWII
Korea
Vietnam
Afghanistan
Kill a commie for Christ
Kill some Pakis on the border

Chickens! Jesus Freakin Christ! Ducks.

How is killing a head of lettuce any more acceptable than lopping off the head of a chicken for dinner?

"I swear, Lord Buddha, I could hear the lettuce scream when the machete began to slice through his leafy head."

The Buddha replied, "When I was a young man, near the beginning of my life, I looked around with true mindfulness and saw that all things are subject to decay. Thus all things are subject to death, sorrow and suffering. I became aware that I too was of the same nature, the nature of beginning and end. What if I searched for that which underlies all creation, that which is nirvana, the perfect freedom from unconditioned existence?

Is the lettuce so different? Should the lettuce step outside of creation?"

He smiled, and all was clear.

Or,,,,,if you are like us --- the many, many sports hunters that keep their kills for future meals --- we all have large freezers, & like myself, a walk-in deep-freezer where I could easily store kills for 3 even 4 years if need be.

A typical winters Sunday afternoon dinner with family & friends could easily consume 50-60 lbs. of pheasant, quail, & venison.

But your right, all hunt clubs worth its weight will have numerous outlets -- all waiting hopefully for a successful weekend of game shooting.

Nothing ever goes to waste. Nothing.

Liberals don't care to understand that concept.

Well it's a bit of variety in the good ole ex-Colonies. What with not just whoopy about shooting pets, animals they shoot so many of each other. I reckon that should be a degree of fairness to keep the Constitution happy!

Quite barbaric.......that Mitt would put his dog atop his car with so many people around the world starving....they'd kill for a leg, wouldn't they!?

Next time a stranger talks to me
when I'm alone, I will look at them
shocked and just whisper quietly

"You can see me?"

Not for Nothin', but that Pastor obviously placed too much trust in the Lord, but was way short in the common sense department when it came to tenants in his own building.

That's unbelievable.

If he ever heard the saying "Trust, but verify", & followed up on that, those bangers would have been long gone before 10 years.

Some day I'll have to tell you about this (& I won't say where) middle city Pastor & community group that hired myself & 3 of my partners/employees to clear their community of some scum. They previously tried conventional means, but desperation (& possibly Divine Providence) led them to us & our unconventional sanitation methods so to speak. In short, mission accomplished----but that's for another day.

Does that involve a statute of limitations?
