Talenthouse artists site blocks Opera

Not sure why yet, but http://www.talenthouse.com/ blocks Opera giving you an "unsupported browser" prompt

It won't work if you identify as FF, but it will if you mask as FF.

I've emailed them to ask why they're doing it.

The site is to support artists and assist collaboration

Go to the site, then go to Opera>Settings>quick Prefrenses>edit site prefs
then go to the network tab, and mask as firefox.
If that doesnt work, mask as ie. Make sure it is mask, not identify.. identify doesnt seem to work as much, but if nothing else works, give it a shot.
Hope this helps :D

I suggest you do a couple of reports. One, use the report a site problem in the help menu and Two, File a Bug report http://www.opera.com/support/bugs/ follow the links at the bottom, once the bug is report is filed report the bug number here and report it over http://my.opera.com/sitepatching/blog/ in the latest topic with the bug report number and problem. the problem will quickly get noticed will all the steps above. up

Ok so in my original post I stated that it works when you Mask as FireFox, which means I know how to do that.

Second - It's about the site owner blocking opera, not a bug in opera - um did I miss something?

Just heard back from Talenthouse.

This is what I sent them, then below that is their reply
~~
Jvvv:
I'm really disappointed that you block Opera, and then recommend IE, FF, Chrome and Safari
Opera is entirely capable of displaying your site if it masks as FireFox.
What are you doing that is non standard that requires it to block Opera?
Looking forward to your response.

Hi J,
Thank you for writing in.
We have found that basic functionality of the Talenthouse website does not work with the Opera browser but we are currently testing our site with newer versions. We hope to be adding it to our list of supported browsers in the future and we appreciate your patience while we are optimizing our site.
We are thrilled to have you as part of our community of artists and we will continue to evolve based on our member's feedback.
Best regards,
Eric

Well I'm pleased that they took the time to reply and appear to have actually read what I wrote. We'll see how it goes.

Promising response, but I'd really like to know what the problem with their "basic functionality" was - do you notice anything broken while masking as Firefox?

No problems masking in FireFox so far. Seems to be the usual browser sniffing then blocking rigmarole that others use.

When I'd used Identify as Opera this was the result:

So you can get back to them and tell them this, and also mention that you can pass on details of any problems they have to an Opera QA staff member for analysis if they are interested wink
