Log-in query

Is there any way I can change the log-in name and password on Linux Ubuntu?

Installed, or booting from the CD (or CD image)?

If it's been installed, it shouldn't even be hard - well, not too hard. Since the log in username is the same as the user's home directory, you'll have to rename the home directory or copy your personal files there. Effectively, you'll have to create a new user. After logging in as the new user, you can transfer the files and then erase the old user.

Apologies, I meant to get back on this one!

When I put Linux on the spare laptop I was asked to provide the username and password on the machine if that clarifies anything? What is the procedure in practice for doing as you say to alter that log-in info?

To make a new account or to change your password, in the top right, system settings, user accounts.

I don't use Ubuntu, I'll take Frenzie's word on where they are. It would be with the other administrative stuff on the menu, should be pretty obvious.
