Hooking into Opera's Session feature with an extensionAfter using the Simple Window Saver extension for Chrome, I want to bring similar functionality to Opera. In a nutshell, Simple Window Saver saves the url of each tab that's open in a single window, allowing the user to save separate browsing sessions and bring them back when needed using a button next to the address bar.
The thing is, Opera already has similar - if not better - functionality built in. The Sessions feature can store multiple windows under one file and also retains the history of each tab (SWS just saves the urls and opens new tabs for each url). The problems I have with Opera's Sessions are that it's buried away in the menus - 4 clicks to save or open a session, if you count hovering - and that it doesn't automatically save sessions when you close the window.
I'd like to make an extension to add these features but, I was wondering, is this even possible? Can an extension hook into existing features in Opera such as Sessions, or is this kind of thing protected against?
We could always try to get the Opera devs to do it - I'd much rather have the built-in Session functionality extended to autosave individual windows and place a button on the address bar for easy switching between them.

This sounds a lot like the Tab Vault extension? https://addons.opera.com/en/extensions/details/tab-vault/
It is a bit like Tab Vault but it has a few key differences. First, it saves entire windows, rather than just one tab at a time. Second, it automatically saves changes to windows on exiting.
I've got Tab Vault and have used it, though I find that tabs I save in there end up forgotten underneath all the other tabs I leave open.
On minor thing, when you open the group of saved tabs it opens them in reverse order - it saves them in the order they are in the tab bar but seems to open the last one first. Either way I think I'll start using this a bit more to cut down on my tab clutter
I might still go ahead making this extension though (one of these days!), as I think having it autosave on closing a window is very useful.
