Get this every single close down

On one of my pc's when switching off I get a message that there is one update to be done and the usual don't switch off. This is happening every single time I shut down time after time, day after day and if I am on a few times then it is becoming standard practice.. Anyway to stop this happening?

If you run Windows Update during your regular Windows session, maybe it'll give you an error message that gives a clue as to what is wrong?

I am told there are 2 important updates as follows....

Security Update for Microsoft. NET Framework 4 on XP. Server 2003...... 3.5MB

Update for Microsoft NET Framework 4 on xp, Server 2003, Vista, Win..... 32MB

Then I go to install them and says it is installing 1 of 2. And again 2 of 2. After several minutes
There is apparently a problem as it says "some updates were not installed" . Errors found - Code 643.

Sorry, I don't know. Microsoft has some possibly helpful instructions that look fairly complex and time consuming: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923100/

You can reject the update by toggling the check box beside it. Should leave you alone about it then.

I tried that road Frenzie and it was as you say getting complicated. Thanks anyway. I think you are probably right there ensbb3 and will toggle the dashed thing off so i don't have this constant wait. Thanks.

@rjhowie, can't you just run the Microsoft's "fix it"? It should be as easy as download and run.

glad to help, sir. fyi, you may of botched an earlier update that this one requires to install. Won't hurt to look back and see anyway.

In the link posted by Frenzie, there is a picture that says Microsoft Fixme. Just click on that to download the installer and run it with administrator permissions.
