received date not shown in received window

When Opera automatically updated to the latest version I lost the date that the email was received in the received window that would appear in its own column. How can I turn this back on?

Also what are the little circles and arrows at the beginning of each entry in the received email window?

Thank you much!

I'm not 100% sure what you're referring to without a pic.

However, see <http://my.opera.com/operawiki/forums/topic.dml?id=1196552>. You can adjust the mail layout between "list and message below", "list and message on right" and "list only". You can also disable grouping. Also, sorting affects all views at once but you now have per-view settings.

Also, you can configure opera:config#Mail%20View%20Two%20Lined%20Messages. 1 Means to use two lines for each message in the list if you use "list and message on right". 2 means to always use 2 lines no matter what the layout is and 0 means to never use two lines. If you use "list and message on right", and set that to 0, you'll get the columns in the list back. Is that what you're looking for?

Thanks for the info. In one of the links you gave it showed how to turn the date on. It is called sent date, not received data (my mistake) and is toggled by right clicking on the column headings. Opera is great, thanks again.

I have the same problem, but I really want Received date, not Send Date.
It happened that there are some messages with wrong Date-sent because of incorrect time in sender's computer.
So, when i sort my mail by Send date, mail from some future date (the wrong one!) is always on the top.
I prefer sort by Received Date, but it is not the option I can get in Opera 11.62
Any suggestion/hint?

If you're using POP and the message is no longer on the server, you can ctrl + s to save the message as an mbs file. Then, shift + del the message in Opera. Then, open the mbs file with a text editor and change the "Date:" header so the date isn't in the future. Then, goto "Menu -> settings -> import and export -> import mail -> import generic mbox" and import it back into that account. If you use IMAP, you can do the same thing and then upload it back to the server.

If this is happening all the time, you need to report it to the sender. It's their responsibility, not yours.

What I really wanted is option to chose Received instead of Sent Date.
But this will do. I have changed original Date as you suggested, and now it is fine with me. Thank you for hint.

Understood. Opera just doesn't have that option (features requests go in the wish-list forum), so was providing a workaround.

Opera used to sort messages (by default even) in arrival date. It had nothing to do with the received header date or the date header. It was when they came into Opera. The main problem with that was you had no control over whether it was descending in the list or not. It was always ascending, which meant that new messages that came in were always at the bottom.

It was a major problem though because when you first setup an imap account (that had years of messages), Opera would treat them all as new arrivals and basically show them in the order they were listed by the IMAP server. Also, when threading is turned on, since new threads would move to the bottom, you'd get even more out-of-order-ness.

To do this now, you have to (temporarily or permanently) switch from "list and message on right" to "list and message below" or "list only" or set Mail View Two Lined Messages to 0. Then, you have to click the column in the list that has the arrow on it "should be sent by default". There are 2 states to the arrow: arrow down=descending, arrow up=ascending. But, if you click again, you can remove the arrow from it. The state where there's no arrow on it (as in, no column has an arrow on it, meaning sort by none of the columns) is the one that sorts by arrrival in ascending order. You'd have to do that for each message list.

Try it though, you might like it. Getting used to new messages being at the bottom takes a month of 2. But, once you get used to it, it's no problem. Opera still remembers the selected messages in the list when you close the view.

Again though, what sucks about that way is when you're reading threads. Someone could reply to the thread before the other, but if you receive them out of order, when you read the replies, you'll often see someone quoting a message that you haven't received yet. It's possible that you might see the same type of problem if you could sort by received header date. With sorting the date header, if everyone has the correct date and time, things are usually in order.

Users have previously wished to be able to edit headers right in Opera so that one could fix this (for example) without the export/import mess.
