Opera Mobile browser 8.60 for Symbian S60 ready for launch in April
For those of you already the owner of a Symbian 9 phone running S60 3rd Edition, you can look forward to using the new Opera Mobile browser, version 8.60.
Version 8.60 will be available second half of April for all new S60 3rd Edition phones, including the Nokia 3250 already in the market. The 8.60 version will also be available as an upgrade for phones running previous versions of Symbian S60, including phones such as Nokia N70, N90 and 6680.
As usual with a new release of the Opera Mobile browser, there will be both new features and improvements to existing functionality. For all of you not enjoying text input for long URL's, you are going to love the new and cool autocompletion in Opera 8.60. It even has an integrated Google search

Together with the existing password manager for easy logins, the Opera Mobile browser now offers a more complete UI than most.
If you have previously used the
shorcut keys, you are going to love the new customisation functionality in the new browser. And if you have been missing "Page up/Page down" for pleasant reading, the Opera 8.60 is the answer to your wishes

A big thank you to all good ideas and contributions we have received on the forums since last release!
Stay tuned for more...
Best regards
The Opera Mobile Symbian team

does "upgrade" mean we have to pay or will it be free for 8.51 users?

All upgrades have been free for registered users since version 6.0 - I strongly doubt that this will change now.

Release was sceduelled for second half of April - which is the time between 15 and 30. April. As for holy days, the Easter Holiday lasts from 13 - 17 April in Norway, so I garante you that there wont be any release during this time. Save your time - dont start nagging untill the mid/end of next week...

patience my son, patience. how many times has something been due to release and for various reasons in development, that product's release date been pushed back? To me, a projected release date is just an estimation of when a company hopes to have everything ironed out and that product be ready for the public. These things are never etched in stone, so sit back, relax ur crack, and when its done we'll have it.

I don't think they'll launch today, usually you don't do launches on Fridays. My best guess is on Monday.
Friday, 28. April 2006, 07:43:11
nah, i think it would be either today or saturday. Wana bet? Lol nothing wrong about it!
Friday, 28. April 2006, 09:27:26
I definitly WOULD like it to launch today or tomorrow, but...
Friday, 28. April 2006, 10:18:36
hmmm.

taking into account previous release timelines which i did a fair bit of research on.. Lets just be optimistic about tomorrow lol. Cant wait . X a million though. Cant hate. X a trillion impatient thoughts although..
feeling like on the edge of browsers fate. X a step towards the release door. ** lol

Dear all
Thank you for all good comments, and thanks for your patience. Our schedule was to launch Opera 8.60 yesterday, but unfortunately that did not happen. We faced a delay in the Symbian signing process from our supplier, which means we were not able to get the signed application files back in time for yesterdays launch.
Next opportunity seems to be the end of next week. We are naturally very eager to share our work on Opera 8.60 with all of you and looking forward to launch day

And oh, did I mention the new smooth scrolling? You’ll really notice the difference

Best regards

Dear Opera thanks a ton for the announcement. I wanted to know weather opera mini works on nokia 3250 and for series 60 3rd edition version 9
Friday, 28. April 2006, 13:19:54
thankyou and i must say opera mobile symbian team is simply the best. And @varun.. Why dont you download the opera mini and find out? Its java and think might work. And as for your query about opera s60 version 9.. Why bother about it now.. When opera8.60 is also available for your series60 3rd edition phone as mentioned in the original announcement above. Cheers.
Friday, 28. April 2006, 13:23:29
oops sorry varun, i got you wrong there.. You have only asked about opera mini for symbian Os9, .. I suggest you check out the opera mini discussion forum mate. Cheers.

Will the new version include full-screen support for our community home pages? The only place I've found that this option is disabled and smart-fit imposed by default, is our pages here.
