Best Antivirus for Android - Avast!?

Over 40 Android Anti-Virus Apps Tested, Only 7 Have Malware Detection Rate of Over 90%

As Android is growing across the globe and reports of malware scares reportedly rise, mobile security companies are making sure that consumers are aware and that they would like them to be concerned. To make the situation seem worse, the number of Android apps and daily Android activations are growing by record numbers, so it’s only natural that these reports of malware detection would increase. That’s where we get a new Android security player to review on the daily.

A company by the name of AV-TEST has taken this growth in Android security apps quite seriously and has published a rather large report on which of them are actually effective and worth your time. After looking at over 40, they were left with the following seven applications, who were the only ones able to catch over 90% of malware loaded onto test devices:

• Lookout Mobile
• Kaspersky
• Avast!
• Dr. Web
• F-Secure
• Zoner Anti-Virus
• IKARUS

Wow Avast! is FREE. It provides tons of services (anti-theft, GPS tracking, SMS lock...). It doesn't slow down your phone (work really fine on Xperia Neo with 60 MB of ROM left) And it has the best ratio of malware detection

...without reading any linked articles, why does F-Secure Mobile Security have green across the board but is ranked 3rd?

Please note that the products in a certain category are sorted alphabetically, so this listing is not a ranking!

Everything up to Zoner is in the >90% ranking, so all of those are ranked first.The text continues like this:

Products with a detection rate between 90% and 65% are still very good and could move to the top range depending on changes to the
tested malware set. Some of these products just miss one or two malware families, which might be not prevalent in certain environments anyway.

^ Yep the order is not particularly a ranking. But I think it's possible that the summary of all tests will determine the order. Like

Avast!: 100% | 99% | 87% |100%
F-Secure: 93% | 94% | 95% | 92%
Kaspersky: 91% | 93% | 95 % | 93%

Notably, MYAndroid Protection Antivirus is now in the top category.
