How To: Open Home Page in New Tab?

Hi All,

My apologies for a simple question. Searching forums has returned nothing but pages of useless results (the search engine really needs help!). Searching help for "Home Page" in the Opera application returned 0 relevant results (of about 6 total).

How does one set Opera to open the home page specified in preferences for each new tab?

Jeff

F**K... its not even an Opera setting. Its one of the reasons I'm trying alternatives to Firefox.

Why is there no check box in preferences? Would that make it too easy for users?

I agree completely with noloader. I am trying Opera again after a number of years because Firefox 19 keeps crashing.

I have managed to get rid of most of the crap that Opera has created since I last used it, but this issue really annoys me, why is there no easy way to open a new tab with your homepage?

I know firefox needs an add on, which is stupid, but at least there is one and it is probably the most downloaded one.

I would be grateful if someone could suggest an EASY way to do this and save all users lots of clicks.

A tick box in preferences (which by the way should be on one of the toolbars and not hidden under control f12, which took me a while to find)
is an excellent idea.

Thanks

Step 1) Preferences > Tabs > then remove checkmark from Reuse current tab
Step 2) Open homepage as you always do (shortcuts, button, mouse gesture etc.)

Well, you can add a button to do it: http://extendopera.org/macro/content/open-new-tab-and-go-home-page

Based on that, I also added a keyboard shortcut for it:
1) Go to Tools -> Preferences -> Advanced -> Shortcuts
2) Click the "Edit" button next to the "Keyboard Shortcuts" list
3) Create a new shortcut or edit an existing one
4) In the right-hand box ("Action") of the shortcut you're editing, type the following:

New page, 1 & Go to homepage,,"New tab",New page

5) Press Enter and/or click OK to save it.

I imagine you could add a menu item in the same way, etc.
Thanks to whoever made that button.
