"Remember choice and do not show dialog again" on opening attachment

Each and every time I open an attachment I am presented with this check box. It is greyed out (inactive).
How can I activate it? I am tired of selecting from a list of programs for the same file types.
Thank you.

I read the post you linked to. It provides an explanation, not a solution. There should be a way to set up a default application without the MIME. I've been using Opera for almost 10 years, and haven't found many sites that use the MIME parameter Opera is looking for. Its especially frustrating that I can't set this up with Yahoo Mail.

The URL http://sverigesradio.se/topsy/ljudfil/3905925.mp3 reports correct MIME type audio/mpeg according to Opera 11.62@Linux and wget.
In my preferences that MIME type and extension is set to be sent to /usr/bin/totem. Also several other MIME types that may have mp3 extension have the same action set.

Still, clicking the link gives me the file download dialog. It shows type: "MPEG audio" and /usr/bin/totem as preselected application. BUT the option to remember this setting is unchecked and grayed out. So every time I download an mp3 file (I'm using Opera to follow pod radio feeds, so that is quite often) I need to click OK in that dialog.

I don't think this happened in the previous Opera version I had. I feel that it is a bug, but thought I may mention it in this thread before submitting an issue.

I found some related threads, probably both had incorrect MIME type from the server: one, another. The first one also refers to why guessing type is bad for security. I don't agree about that. An attacking site may spoof the MIME type too. The flaw in IE described was probably caused by guessing differently between the dialog-stage and the run-action-stage. If necessary for safety, it would make sense that if either extension or MIME-type or first bytes in file indicates an unsafe type (executable) then make the safe option and treat it as executable.
