Main menu pops up about twice in a minute

I have one install of Opera that constantly pops up the main menu, on the left.

Does anyone know how to stop this from happening?

No other Opera/Linux install that I have does this, so it is unique to this one computer.

The menu in Opera is displayed if you tap (and release) the Alt key. I do recall another report of this, some program had been set to prevent the computer from sleeping, and it accomplished this by simulating pressing the Alt key repeatedly. I'll have to see if I can locate the post to find out what program it was supposed to be ...

I encountered this behaviour when playing videos with the gstreamer-plugin (Edit: meant totem, sorry ~.~). Perhaps this is also the program that you are talking about, sgunhouse (preventing the computer from going to sleep seems reasonable for video playback to me).

Hmm ... to check out sgunhouse's theory that something is sending Alt key-presses you could try changing the Opera menu's default keyboard shortcut to something else, see the following page:

If this works around the problem please report back and confirm!

What Distro/Distro version and Window Manager/Desktop Environment do you have running and is it different from the other machines?

Ah, OK. Thanks for the idea. There is a good chance that playing video did trigger this reaction, then.

I will test it when I turn on that computer next.

I did find this old totem bug:

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=571179

It looks like this was fixed in Fedora back in 2010. However at the end of the bug report is a link to:

https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=654250

Which has comments from this year.

Either, you are hitting this bug or perhaps some other app doing something similar. Changing the Opera menu's default keyboard shortcut to something else should however work around the issue.

When reporting back, please mention your distro and version. Also if you have Totem installed and running, either directly or as a browser plugin.

LinuxMint/12 Gnome 3.2.1 64-bit
Kernel 3.0.0-16-generic

Totem 3.0.1

At the moment, I have not run a video and the menu is not popping up, not even once.

I will look at changing the keyboard shortcut and test with a video, later.
