Some images on Facebook are not displayed

I don't know what's causing this behaviour, but Facebook stopped loading some images (like my Avatar). I have another portable Opera installation and all images load just fine.

I disabled all my extension, and problem persists. What could have happened?

Did you recently add a new rule to the content blocker? You can display which content is blocked on the current page this way: Right click -> Block content -> Details

Nope, and I've just disabled content blocking on facebook.com - still no new images. Old images are being loaded. Might be a cache issue? It's the only site that doesn't work...

I have the same issue on Facebook (on SSL) in Opera 11.62 on Windows 7. I'm actually down to seeing almost no images more at all, see the attached screenshot.

The black boxes are of course just erased content.

The problem started about two days ago and only exists in this Opera installation. IE9 for example shows everything as intended on the same computer.

Here is what I did already without success:
  • Clear cache and restart browser
  • Made sure I'm not only showing images from cache/having images disabled by accident
  • Disabled all extensions and User JS
  • Removed some content blocking URLs, then disabled content blocking completely

Okay, new info that I just discovered:
This URL
https://fbcdn-profile-a.akamaihd.net/hprofile-ak-snc4/157485_100000031898849_717674353_q.jpg
also doesn't work when called directly. The error Opera reports is "Es ist nicht möglich die sichere Transaktion abzuschließen" which is German for "Unable to complete the secure transaction".
When calling this URL with http only (= without SSL) I can see the image! Some https stuff is going wrong here.

Is this a problem with the Akamai CDN or is Opera messing up the answer somehow? Any help is much appreciated!
I am quite desperate as you can see by my use of Internet Explorer... wink

Okay, after some more searching and thinking, I solved my problem myself. Maybe Stahn or someone else can use my answer, too:

I (accidentally, drunkenly or stupidly) declined an Akamai security certificate. This resulted in not loading any secure content from that specific server which is used by Facebook.
To solve this, I went to Settings -> Security -> Manage Certificates and clicked on the rightmost tab "Declined Certificates". I had one Akamai cert listed that should not be there or at least caused the trouble with the secure content.

    Thanks for listening.

That was it! I think I declined it once since it was bugging me with Twitter stuff and I didn't even use it. So I declined it. Thing is, strange that it worked alright until some days ago, since I declined that certificate like... three months ago.

    Anyway, thanks!

Thanks a lot! I swear that the entire Internet is useless without places like this! It worked for me, and I didn't clear any caches or anything, the certificate was all I needed. Super helpful! and I'm sure as hell glad that people like you exist!

I'm having the same problem with images not displaying on Facebook. Like the OP, it's not all the images, just some (most, it seems). Primarily it looks like avatars and the like. I tried the fix listed above, with the Certificate, but I actually didn't have any rejected certificates even listed- no approved either. Is there anything else anyone may know about this problem?

Thanks for the solution, I would never have found the problem on my own.

    Hi coderocker,

I've had the same FB problem. I looked in "Declined Certificates", and I do have the Akamai certificate in there. My question is, what do I do with it. Do I just delete it? Do I search for the certificate elsewhere and accept it? Do I move it from "Declined" to "Accepted", and if so, how do I do that, because there doesn't seem to be an obvious way.

Thank-you for your posting. This has been a real thorn in my side for weeks! up

Yes, just delete it from that list. You're not deleting the certificate itself, it only means that this certificate can be accepted again from now on.
But if everything works alright then there shouldn't be the need to do anything else to bring your missing content back.

    Hi coderocker,

I went ahead and deleted that file from Declined Certificates, and the problem immediately disappeared when I logged into FB!!

Thank-you so much for your help!! I'm glad it was such an easy fix.

In my Internet travels trying to find a solution, I've come across many people who are having the same issue, but the solutions that are being offered are way off the mark.

I'm grateful for you and this Opera Forum! Keep up the good work!! yes

    Sincerely,
    Shaunnification
