11.62 Hangs & Freezes.
Since installing 11.62, it has repeatedly stopped running for 20-30 seconds or freezes all together and has to be "terminated."I'm running Slackware64-current and the latest Nvidia driver.
This does Not happen with Firefox, Konqueror, Midori or Wine-Gecko.
It happens most frequently on the Linuxquestions.org web site.
And, oh, btw, it still does not "play well" with SMF web sites. It displays the pages very well, but trying to post a messages is another story, when it hasn't frozen, of course.

When it freezes, kill its PID (process id) with two SIGSEGVs. This will force a crash and crashlog, which may be able to use to see where Opera is freezing.
For example, start Opera backgrounded and note the PID (in this example 8003)
$ opera & [1] 8003
When Opera freezes use "kill -11 PID", twice like so:
$ kill -11 8003 Failed to discover whether data is available [select]: Interrupted system call $ kill -11 8003 $ opera [crash logging]: CRASH!! /usr/lib64/opera/opera got signal SIGSEGV at address B7387A67 Log was created here: /var/tmp/crash20120420100102.txt
Whilst the dialog is is up copy this file somewhere else (it gets deleted from /var/tmp/once you confirm upload or cancel the dialog). You can then attach the log to your My Opera files and post a link to it here. Then hopefully we can get some idea of what is going wrong for you.

Yes, one and the same.
I first starting using that distribution in 1995, and have returned to it time and time again, but after all these years and after this last year and the events of the last week, I think it is time to go shopping for a different distribution with real professional management and fewer zealots. Those people, at least those at the top, don't have the first clue as to how to run a business. The complete lack of responsibility and common sense is childish at best. As I've said before, if he wanted to take some time off, fine, he certainly has earned it, but it should have been announced and people "officially" appointed to take up the "slack" (pun intended).
Unfortunately, the way it has unfolded has been completely irresponsible and sum total of the inactivity over the last year, as I've said before, became the "fuel" that sparked the events of the last several days.
It was nice to see so many offer to help, but after doing almost nothing for the last year, and therefore, the income dwindling, what did he expect. They should be throwing rocks at the guy, not sending him money for doing nothing.
Oh, well. Time to move on.
Rant over.

Thanks. I'll give it a go if I can get it to stay up that long.
This morning, my time, it has been giving "the sever has disconnected" error. I had to use, ugh, Firefox, to be able to sign on here and respond to your post.

That said, if you are looking for another distro with similar ideas and don't mind the bleeding edge then I would recommend Arch. I used it as my main distro for about a year and a half. I had a couple of minor breakages but nothing that couldn't be resolved pretty quickly.
Alternatively if you hardware is well supported FreeBSD would be a good option. Also both Arch and FreeBSD have excellent documentation.
bash-4.2$ opera & [1] 6818 bash-4.2$ /home/nai/.gtkrc-2.0:1: error: unexpected character `-', expected keyword - e.g. `style' GLib-GIO-Message: Using the 'memory' GSettings backend. Your settings will not be saved or shared with other applications.

Maybe you can make some sense of it? Many thanks.

PS: FreeBSD has some appeal. We'll see....

I've been on linuxquestion.org reading just about everything I can find, but it won't freeze. It did hang once for the usual 20-30 seconds. The only change I've made was to install AlienBob's latest, dated today, 20 April, flashplayer package.
Do you think flashplayer might have something to do with it?
Thanks and have a good weekend.
As previously mentioned, since installing the latest flashplayer plug-in from AlienBob, Opera 11.62 has not frozen, but it did hang twice, several hours apart, while running in KDE 4.8.2.
I really prefer the "look and feel" of Xfce (not as "pretty" as KDE, but easier on the eyes). I had been running KDE most of yesterday, but last evening switched back to Xfce 4.8.x (Mr. Workman's 27th build). I then fired up Opera 11.62 and went to linuxquestions.org where it 'hung' for 20 to 30 seconds every few minutes. I finally gave up and used Firefox to finish what I had started.
This morning I tried 11.62 in KDE and it didn't hang a single time. Went to Xfce and the same pattern of hanging started again.
I was on the Opera Desktop Team Blog and noticed the new build (1380) of Opera-Next with the hardware acceleration, and downloaded and installed your latest Slackware package of the same.
It did not freeze once when running in Xfce, but it did do something that ll.62 did to me three times yesterday.
I was on a SMF board and composed a message. I clicked on "save" and it threw me back to the sign-on page. I signed back onto the board and discovered the message had been posted, even through I was thrown off the board in the process.
It does something similar at linuxquestions.org. I was signed on, clicked on a reply or maybe it was the quote button and it threw me to a screen that said I wasn't signed on. I was able to duplicate this twice with Opera-Next. It did same thing last night with 11.62, but I was so fed up I just closed it and went to Firefox.
So there you go...
Oh, one more thing and this goes back over several versions, but say, for example, I'm on whatever board, it doesn't matter what software package they are using, and while reading through the new posts I find one I want to reply to and click on the "wand" button to sign on. In every case I get thrown all the way back to the board's main index page and have to work my back to the forum, thread, and post to which I wanted to reply. This does not happen with any other browser I've ever used.
I've read about killing Opera while it hangs to obtain crash report, here it is:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/12634473/crash20120428132008.txt
I have the same freezes at my work machine which has GeForce GTX 520.
To solve the freeze, I've simply disabled Flash plugin for Opera and now use FireFox to watch Flash.
However, 1406 still does not "play well" with SMF boards. I hate having to switch browsers just to go to one site, but I've been using Konqueror when using SMF boards. Posting and editing messages on SMF boards with Opera (all versions, Linux versions at least) is almost enough to make one consider dropping Opera altogether. Grrrrrrrrrr....
A big "Thank you!" to whomever is responsible.
