How to speed up Opera Mini? Does having too much bookmarks make Opera Mini slow?

Is there any way to speed up my Opera Mini 5.1? My phone is Nokia c3 and when I use 6.1, 6.5 or 7, it hangs... So the stable version for my c3 is 5.1...

What do you mean it hangs? How many bookmarks do you have?

Opera Mini have been known to hang when it syncs your bookmarks. Did you give it sometime to recover. That said, Opera Mini on the K800i occasionally hangs and crashes.

Right now I am using 5.1... Coz evertime I use 6 - 7 versions, it get stuck after 10mins I'm using it... Well I have many bookmarks in my 5.1 but never crashes... I'm just wondering if having too much bookmarks slows down Opera Mini... And also I turned off the sync-ing thing...

What OS is your phone running? Symbian or just plain java? How slow is your Internet?

It's nokia c3 and it's s40 meaning it's just plain java... I think I lack some details with what I'm saying... Of course, you can browse very fast using it through wi-fi... But I'm using a GPRS connection...

Just enter
Config:
Into the address bar, but I can assure you there's nothing there that can stop the hang. Try this: try re installing Opera Mini. To avoid the loss of the bookmarks turn on Opera Link and let it sync your bookmarks. Or take a note of them all. Them delete Opera Mini app from your phone. Restart your phone. Them redownload Opera Mini from http://m.opera.com or Opera Mini Next from http://m.opera.com/next/ and reinstall. After that, turn on Opera Link and it sync with your account.

Hehe thanks, but my friend here has a much better and much easier solution... He said I just have to download an application called ram booster, to prevent the hang thing! I hope it works...

Haha this application really works! Now I'm using Opera Mini 7... Okay, I'll share this app to you... Note, this is only for s40 phones... It's a jar file here:

On my very old java phone, having too many bookmarks actually slow it down, I also used rambooster app for java phones that helped with surfing performance. But that was a simple flip-cellphone with no MDIP2 platform and I was using Opera Mini 3.

Yes, it doesn't only speeds up the connection but also prevents opera mini to hang... But still my OM7 still hangs, sometimes... So I decrease the number of my bookmarks... Still, OM5.1's the best for me, it's a stable version...

Oh, but when I installed Ram Booster, my OM7 worked and it didn't hang anymore... Well, sometimes it hangs when I open too many tabs... Having extra minis isn't bad at all for c3... And what do you mean by crippled one? Hehe I don't understand... Are you talking about the built-in Opera Mini on c3?

yes, that's correct, there is not any 'ram booster' app (or ram related) to interfere with opera mini functionality since the heap is the key at startup and in the end the pointer is null (as java.lang exception) when the app tend to crash. The main problem with mini7 is that memory-handling depends by page partition which can be seen via 'debug:' page - opera mini with 20 bookmarks will have:: "2412846'' when 2653924 is by default with mini6 - perhaps a wide range of devices with non-dynamic heap allocation could have some probems with that.

well, as you can see on http://www.jbenchmark.com/phonedetails.jsp?benchmark=jvm&D=Nokia%20C3&testgroup=null the memory is 2097152 (like 2MB) without +-. For comparison se c510 device's total memory is more than 30MB.

SE c510 is your phone? Yeah c3 has a very low ram but wow, compared to that SE c510, it has 30MB... So what I'm gonna do, throw my c3 and buy an Iphone instead, haha... Is nokia c3 and se c510 the same? Except for ram

You can't buy a phone just by a single criteria. I'm sure that your phone have lots a funny stuff in it, that's a subjective matter... Good to know that works with a 'booster', I will try that with first occasion. Sony Ericsson c510 and Nokia c3 can be found cheap enough in 50-75 euro price range btw. smile

The link above is just like demo version, it works after you install it and after a few minutes, it won't work again coz it needs an activation code... Just ignore the link above, instead follow this link:

xaeron.net/dload/xaeron.net_Mem0ry_up.jar

It's a more stable ram booster... It's just the same... And yes, ram booster sucks for people who don't know how to use it... And what kind of phone are you using?

Nope, it ain't quicker with/without timeout set or opera mini 6.5 or 7.0. Opera mini can be x2 faster via HTTP protocol if the latest standard will be accepted, that's unexpected.

I have some problems downloading the app, so I resorted to speeding up my GPRS through finding a fast proxy server of my network in google and it worked. I'm in the Philippines and tried it with my Globe sim. I configured my phone manually and also my OM and... Lightnin speed! Try this with ur own network

First, I searched in google the "fastest proxy address for globe" in google, then I copied the proxy address&port through my OM. I went to Settings->Configuration->Personal Accounts-Options->Add New-Web. I pasted the given proxy address and port then saved it. I activated the config then I set "Personal Config." as the default config and then activated default in all apps.
I followed mvthakar's advice in the PowerUser setting window of OM and... It speeded up smurf
Note: Access point is also given with the psa and pport
