Opera 12.00 build 1387 - RC for Beta

As if you didn't expect it from the fast pace of recent snapshots ... today's snapshot is listed as a (first) release candidate for Beta 1.

Mind you, I don't think they've fixed my pet bug yet (won't know until I re-enable acceleration), and we have the list below as well:

Known Issues
  • No FreeBSD builds (yet)
  • Problems with dragging on Google Maps
  • 64-bit Windows build crashes when connecting to a POP account

Actually, I see a FreeBSD build now, so I suppose the first one there has been corrected ...

When you switch lightweight themes, there is a remnant of a previous theme on the right edge of the window. Windows 7 32-bit here.

It keeps quitting while I'm playing Scrabble on Facebook. How can I go back to 12-alpha?

I updated from buggy 1328 to 1387 with auto-update. This version should be still alpha. Too much bugs for beta:

1. Opera hangs on facebook and other websites. CPU 100% and "not responding". Scrolling the wall is slow due to loading older posts.
2. Opera is faster with hardware acceleration enabled. Performance is slow with HWA disabled, mainly in HTML 5. Why? **
3. Flash on fixing bugs and adding new features instead of changing icons (they replaced recycle bin into an arrow).
4. You should still work on Opera's startup time and overall performance. People want fast and stable browser!
6. Back/Forward buttons are slow. I remember them switching immediately even in Opera 9/10.
7. Scrolling some websites (e.g. Opera test page 2) is extremely slow and Opera's interface (tabs and address bar) is displayed in the middle of page!

** Windows Vista and 7 don't have HWA for GDI, Windows XP has but is it a reason? Currently I'm browsing with Opera's HWA disabled.

Win 7 + Aero enabled + Transparency disabled + Core i3 350M + ATI Radeon + 4 GB RAM

But there is a plus... Opera uses less memory because they fixed some memory leaks smile

Complete failure:
1 - it completely crashes constantly when even the simplest task is done: when opening the bookmarks, when closing a tab, when trying to access the trashcan, when minimizing the window or even moving the window if the HW is enabled.
2 - the scrolling errors are everywhere, it has became pretty much a bad joke - it's like they are trying to se how badly you can mess up even the simplest page while doing even the slowest scroll
3 - the speeds (both launching and loading a site, both with and without HWA) are abysmal, they're even a LOT slower than IE8 - 11.62 is a lot faster and 9.21 runs circles around both. With HWA it practically unusable, it just stays there and from time to time just randomly react to a long forgotten command.
4 - the plugin wrapper process is completely out of control - in a flash heavy site i can get even 20 of them - and doesn't gives you anything in return: the so called ability to close one of them or allow it to crash independently is pure BS, in reality the entire browser freezes and you have to manually close all those god-damned processes from the task manager.
I would have liked to have the new address bar (remember when we all lamented here the old version and the developers claimed that the new one is a lot better and we don't know it, now it's basically back as it was before), but the rest of the browser simply isn't worth keeping it. This has been my last Next version and i don't plan to update the stable one anymore. I will stay with 11.62 forever since apparently XP is no longer supported by the new versions. And all of this because instead of refining a slim, efficient browser the developers have decided to cram it full of useless, shiny crap that not only almost noone used and what was used worked miserably. Too bad, we've all lost in that.

I uninstalled the 64-bits Windows version again. Opera crashes when I try to get my e-mails. But I see in the first message that it is a known issue.

For the rest it works rather ok.

Any idea when the next (and better) beta version comes out?

Next bugs:

8. Opera constantly uses about 5-10% CPU despite it does nothing.
9. Opera doesn't display some background images. Previous versions didn't have this bug. IE 8 has similar issue.
10. Typing in textarea seems to be litle slow.
11. Opening links in new tabs with drag & move down/up gesture is too sensitive.
12. Why does Opera load operapluginwrapper process if I have disabled plugins?
13. Windows XP with Themes service disabled - try to click drop-down (bin) icon.
14. Offensive JavaScript is still slow, memory usage too high, when will you fix all memory leaks?

- When I want to change the skin, I have to manually find the site. "Find More Skins" takes me to a selection of background images. How very firefoxey.
- I install my favorite skin from Opera 11. Whenever Opera loads anew, the skin is loaded, but elements that are supposed to be in color are white/grey. I'm using the Opera Fan Club v.1152 skin (a.k.a. Affinity).

Opera 12 gets subjectively slower than Opera 11.62
- Does not work Drag-n-Drop in Google Images (disguised as Firefox)
- Not displayed on the left side of the notebook http://tomorrow.do site, as well as the background is not visible
- A quick scroll through the page that contains youtube video, the video flickers "tail"
- Unable to close the window to check for new versions on the "OK" if there is no new version (Russian Language)

The platform is windows
Sorry for my english

Most GIF animations are played until you scroll the wheel (although they are still visible). Other issue: images are loaded from memory, scaled and rendered each time they are displayed on the screen after not being visible or after switching tabs. Next issue: build 1387 loses images.

@amundgjersoe: Facebook and other websites (probably some scripts) lock out Opera completely. I have been reporting with a form in Help menu.

As some have mentioned, the L-dragging issue is a real nuisance. I was trying to find something on Google Maps whilst on the 'phone, so limited time, and having to use the directional arrows instead of dragging really slowed me down.

The system clock running fast - about 2s/min!

Some toolbars in some skins turning black.

Startup OK at ~7s (5yo PC), but then ~12s for Bookmarks to load (Unite is off)

After anything but v. simple browsing Opera crashes on exit (ongoing since about 11.5).

Build 1387 is unusable. Opera suspends on Facebook and other sites with CPU 100%. Disabling JavaScript doesn't help. Fix all bugs posted above.

Plugin wrapper: first time CPU usage was 100% and I had to kill opera_plugin_wrapper. Next time it worked but still slowly!

There should be a link in the UI for both, it's poor UI design to have skinning functionality but never expose any UI accessible manner in which to use it.

Just a little feedback. I love Opera, indeed!!
Probably me that not are putting things correct together.
It (1387) hangs very often. Actually, very very often and I no longer get a respond page as earlier. I can restart from last session and it's ok, but mostly I have found it is best to start from homepage. I have especially problems with java scrips like contacting my bank account.
And Youtube!

Best regards
justafriend (and opera supporter for several years, Internet for all!)

Especially some plugins I don't know is doing hangs all up. When kill some of them, it works. I'm just a amateur

When I install a theme, download bar disappeared after some time leaving the download unfinished and no theme installed.
I tried to install the brushed metal theme and as it is so small, it finished downloading before the bar disappeared and the theme installed successfully.

what to do?

Is there any way to make it possible to drag around images again? Or reenable ctrl+alt+mousedrag on images?
