Need for a night mode

Opera Mini in mobile phones is fine, but there is something missing:

OM is good in daytime, but not that good at nighttime because of
.
.
.
Lack of 'night mode' for these browsers.
Night mode means making the background of the webpages dark at evening.
Need some help with the developers..

Once you load the page normally, click on the bookmarklet and the page will reload in dark background.

I think night mode is coming soon to Opera Mini.Because Oupeng Browser(Opera in China) version 4.5 (Oupeng Lite) includes night mode selection.
To download Oupeng Versions just go to
http://m.opera.com/cn

All versions are Chinese

Definitely agree with you.

I am waiting for this feature to be made available.

It can actually save some battery on OLED screen.

The latest version of UCbrowser has been released with the night mode function. Still waiting for Opera to do the same.

Anyone have any news?

smurf, i found out someth about this issue but couldnt remember where i came across this post (accidently i guess...perusing around) so i been pokin around & found yer post again! Glad i did cuz this will likely help enhance browser for some others as well.

The deal is that the way i roll is when someth i come across doesnt work & i cannot find a logical solution for why not... i often employ the "1,000 button pushes" method, i.e., i convince myself that if i want whatever it is that doesnt work bad enuff, i keep pushing every & all buttons, over & over, ignoring the fact that the same error or failure keeps telling me to "keep it up, stupid...you'll break it eventually". Well, "break it" can have more than 1 meaning...

I went to the more in depth instructions for the site that hosted these "apps" or "add-ons" or whatever the heck they are, "bookmarklets" i guess...and i read enuff to give me a headache realizing the instructs were way beyond my grasp but also noticed that they were from 2007...so i said heck w/all this & decided that maybe the simple way of just adding whichever bookmarks you wanna try & removing the beginning text up to & including the "?", might work (someth to do w/a java script argument?....i have no clue). So i "installed" a few of em that sounded interesting, such as bold text, nite vision, demobilizer & 1 or 2 others. Got same issue as you, black screen, otherwise blank. That pissed me off so i kept trying over & over, on diff sites & diff above applications. Got about 20 or more black/blank pps & possib an error or 2. Perserverence (stupidity) being my technique, finally i started getting the "bold text" thingy to work & then tested it all over the place. It works beautiful. (you see, it said "uncle" b4 me!). At 1st i took this as meaning these add ons will work on some sites but not others (i think i read someth to same effect on the full instructions site), but then, boom i got the "demobilizer" to start working also! I knew it cuz i wound up at "engadget" site & it looked kinda "desktoppy" looking + there was a link right at the top, saying "go back to mobile site". However i also noticed it wasnt full true desktop, so remembering how the instructs said how u have to remove the url director part of the addy, the http// part up to the question mark & decided to see if i could play around in the same way w/the url in the addy bar. I saw it was different than for this add on site, but noticed instead that at the other end of the full addy, was stuff like m for mobile(?) & the word "false". So i started deleting 1 character at a time & trying to reconnect ea time, until boom, voila! I got redirected to a more full desktop layout & then got a zoom window which i clicked & got what for most intents & purposes, a pretty much full (by the way i use mini) desktop version of the site, approx 3x larger than my 3" screen size. Just like the old "BOLT" browser used to do!

I decided to see if i could do the same thing w/o using this demobilizer add on, by simply taking out any ".m" from mobile sites, in fact even tried it w/opera site. It works in some cases & then i tried undo-ing single column view & it got better (this is v7 im using) & got a zoom thing going, making it start approximating desktop, but after a min, the phone crashed, so.....???

Also to my delight (going back to this add-on thingy) eventually the nite vision started working as well. Was just viewing your post in full night view! Looks great in the dark, much easier on eyes & maybe battery too? Just like they have in uc browser.

So keep trying over & over what u have already loaded & hopefully it"ll start working 4u2! cool

update: i may have spoken too soon, after i got several of the bookmarklets working, i thought it was a stable thing & was excited to report that these neat little apps work good even if u get black screen at 1st, but keep trying. But then, afterwards, i started getting black screens again. I started testing some more & sometimes some would work, but more often not. Got busy w/other stuff & just getting back to more testing. Very spotty success. So far i havent yet been able to determine if they only work on certain websites or only work sometimes, period. If i figure that out, i'll post back about it. I have gotten at least 3 or 4 to work. The one that works most often, so far, is the nite mode.

No one seems to care so i wont bother w/this anymore other than to say that while i have gotten several of the bookmarklets to work, incl nite mode, demobilizer, bold type & maybe 1 or 2 others, they only work rarely upon further testing & cant figure out why. I too would like to know if anyone has a solution to it.

Please Opera add night mode to Mini and/or Mobile. Both UC Browser and Mathon have this now on Android (the only reason I have these browsers is for this feature). There's a six month old extension to the desktop version of Opera that has this. Yours once was the best mobile browser but once you have used night mode on a Samsung OLED screen (any flavor of Galaxy or Note) you can't go back. On the Galaxy black turns off the pixels, so night mode looks great, is better for staying asleep, and does not consume as much battery. Look to the above two browsers and your desktop extension for clues. You do so much else right, why not this?

I understand how it feels when no one listen to your request. I feel the same way too regarding the night mode (among others).

However I will keep posting in this thread from time to time in the hope that Opera will eventually listen to users who need night mode for Opera Mini.

@natkk,
wanted2 take a moment2 say thx 4 expressing above sentiment, as even tho i may not post the most well written or correct or short/concise posts, i still am trying2b helpful 2my best, & way more often than not, there comes no replies or acknowledgements, in-kind & for the effort. So...decent of u2 note.

I did go back a few more times & tried2 find some way2 get the bookmarklets, esp the nite mode, to work more consistently, but could not. I also tried2 determine if it was purely the function iitself, or maybe a site-supported, specific issue, but couldnt determine that either cuz what i found was that random sites wud sometimz/somtimz not, work (nitemode). Since opera doesnt seem to speak to this, and since no one seems2 want2 try and/or post their own experience w/the nite mode bookmarklet, (which, since it works sometimes, could concievably lead2 a fix)...then i guess those that want it (esp those that speak of nite mode as tho it was so important that the lack of, keeps them from using mini [i dont believe that silliness for a minute], are resigned to just keep complaining, comparing & begging opera for (not saying thats wrong).

The way i see it is yes, nite mode does have some real benefits & someone was kind enuff2 post the bookmarklet link...but it only works occasionally...so why doesnt someone w/knowledge about bookmarklets & how they work, step up & post SOMETHING towards a fix4 something that obviously works sometimes?

Also, i noted a coupl ppl saying that uc browser now has it, but if im not mistaken, they had nite mode a long time ago, at least 2 yrs ago anyway. So its nothing new.

Also, maybe im wrong but nite mode seems to be not much more than a function of reverse colors (negative). I know there are apps out there that do that. So for those who could find such an app & it can install & work on their phone, there's a possib alternative & one that would work "across the board", not just om.
======

*one other thing...what do u mean about vol button & tabs? I think vol button depends on media player in use at the time, rather than mini, no? Besides, why wud ur device vol buttons not be adequate? (excuse me if i misunderstand). As to tabs, i also dont get what u mean cuz that is 1 of the best features of mini. My tabs button is certainly onscreen & when clicked, shows all tabs in use, across bottom half of screen, of which any one of, can instantly & easily be chosen. What could be better or easier than that?
