Unable to delete history

I have problems deleting history.
After deleting a website in the history it reappears after a restart of Opera.
Then I tested to delete the whole history and it was empty until I restarted Opera. The whole history was back.

Go to your profile folder and locate the global_history.dat, search_field_history.dat and typed_history.xml - now delete them. Do a full search to see if there aren't other copies of these files hidden somewhere else and delete them also if there are.
Now start Opera again, your full history is gone and new/empty files will be created.
Now if you want to Opera forgot everything after each close then make those files read only.

Thanks for that answer. I tested it but these files are back after deleting them (I closed Opera before deleting).
A full search said that there aren't any copies.

Yes, those files are recreated but they are now empty - just 1 kB - and all your history should be gone.
If you want to be thorough you cold also delete the cache and storage folders.

No, they aren't created empty. They are created and have the same contents as the old files. The full history is back.
I also tried to delete the cache and storage folders.

That's impossible since all the history items are stored in those files and aren't backed up anywhere else. So if this happens then either you are deleting the wrong files or the files are protected by something else, or something is very wrong with your Opera install. Uninstall it, manually delete ALL the remaining Opera folders - especially those from Users - , reboot, run a system cleaner and reinstall.

I've found a bug with opera 12 on win32 platform about this history delete problem.
I searched the forums to before i report it, and then i found your posts.

I can't delete the history through the Opera GUI, it comes back after opera restarts, until i delete the profile/vlink4.dat before opera starts.

I don't know from which build this problem begins, but i found it in both build 1383 and build 1387.

It seems that i am not the only one who has met it, so it may have been reported by someone ?

Hey there .

you bug has been confirmed and reported DSK-365517 . Thanks for keeping a sharp eye out for bugs keep up the good work we need to find as many as possible before the soon to be arriving OperaNext 12 release date .

I did find a temp workaround until they get the panel delete button working . try going to CTRL+F12 advanced tab > history > addresses >clear .

That is where is says " remember addresses for history and auto completion. that should empty your history folder but it may not work on all Opera version this does work in win xp xp3 . cheers

cheers!!

Note to anyone and all who can help, I have just downloaded opera 12 for Windows 2000 (yes I know we have an old OS) and the history problem is now a problem and was not before, as you can see in the comment info post today's date is June 17, 2012. I downloaded the new opera update for Opera 12 because when I tried to open opera it said it had an update available and so I updated it. Now that I have used the browser it seems just like the original one, however with one catch. When I delete my history and close my browser, then reopen it, my history is still there. I've tried several times to fix it by continuously deleting and reopening to see if it would work but it keeps staying there. I deleted, closed browser, restarted my computer and reopened and its still there. Please HELP!! I really need help if anyone knows how to help me please do so!! REALLY REALLY NEED HELP, URGENT!!! Please respond ASAP if you know what to do!!!!!

As written above - delete the files that hold the history when the browser is shut down.

It's not impossible and I doubt it has anything to do with the install as exactly the same thing happened to me. Deleted all the files to which you referred, verified that there are no copies elsewhere on the system, yet the history still persists. This is a ridiculous security hole in a browser. I shall no longer be taking opera seriously - used for several years, guess it's back to IE now. It has its faults but none as huge as this.

Development guys, I know this browser is free and all but really, it's worthless with this kind of bug.

To all above: the deletion of the history file works only if the Link is disabled or the History option is unticked - check that before doing anything else otherwise the history will be fully restored the moment opera is restarted.

ok,after several tries i found the solution.here is what you have to do...

files-preferences-advanced-history-adresses ,choose 0 and uncheck the option below that says that keeps the content from the pages you have visited in memory.

also check the option below that says empty on exit.

you are ready now.

if yoy want to delete part of the history you will have to wait like the rest of us for a new update to fix that.
