Now start Opera again, your full history is gone and new/empty files will be created.
Now if you want to Opera forgot everything after each close then make those files read only.
I searched the forums to before i report it, and then i found your posts.
I can't delete the history through the Opera GUI, it comes back after opera restarts, until i delete the profile/vlink4.dat before opera starts.
I don't know from which build this problem begins, but i found it in both build 1383 and build 1387.
It seems that i am not the only one who has met it, so it may have been reported by someone ?

Hey there .
you bug has been confirmed and reported DSK-365517 . Thanks for keeping a sharp eye out for bugs keep up the good work we need to find as many as possible before the soon to be arriving OperaNext 12 release date .
I did find a temp workaround until they get the panel delete button working . try going to CTRL+F12 advanced tab > history > addresses >clear .
That is where is says " remember addresses for history and auto completion. that should empty your history folder but it may not work on all Opera version this does work in win xp xp3 .
cheers!!

That's impossible since all the history items are stored in those files and aren't backed up anywhere else. So if this happens then either you are deleting the wrong files or the files are protected by something else, or something is very wrong with your Opera install. Uninstall it, manually delete ALL the remaining Opera folders - especially those from Users - , reboot, run a system cleaner and reinstall.
It's not impossible and I doubt it has anything to do with the install as exactly the same thing happened to me. Deleted all the files to which you referred, verified that there are no copies elsewhere on the system, yet the history still persists. This is a ridiculous security hole in a browser. I shall no longer be taking opera seriously - used for several years, guess it's back to IE now. It has its faults but none as huge as this.
Development guys, I know this browser is free and all but really, it's worthless with this kind of bug.
(Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate Edition)
files-preferences-advanced-history-adresses ,choose 0 and uncheck the option below that says that keeps the content from the pages you have visited in memory.
also check the option below that says empty on exit.
you are ready now.
if yoy want to delete part of the history you will have to wait like the rest of us for a new update to fix that.
