Downloading flash installer failed ?

Flash stopped working with Opera 11.62. Worked fine before.
I got this message : You need to install Flash plug-in to view this page properly. I tried to download and got repeatedly : Downloading flash installer failed.
I uninstalled Flash then installed it to no avail.

Flash works fine with Chrome, Firefox...

Thanx

Which page? Sometimes masking will solve that issue and make sure you're using the latest version of Flash (11.2 202.235).

Are you installing "over the web"? Would using the stand-alone installers make any difference?

You can direct-download the 32-bit installers with these links :

Flash installer for IE
Flash installer for all other browsers

I believe they recommend using their uninstaller before reinstalling :
uninstaller stuff is on this page

As I've noted in another post, I have this problem, but it's even more general to Opera refusing to recognize many other plugins that it used only a couple of days ago. No recent installs of anything, so I don't know how this problem arose or how the disassociations occurred nor how they can be remade again.

I did it all. Uninstalled and reinstalled both Flash and Opera. Also tried an older version of Opera. I used the Uninstaller program for Flash, also, as well as using Remove in Add/Remove programs in Control Panel. (I tried a few different approaches with this, silly me.) Everything looks just great until you need Flash - thus making Opera basically unusable, since youtube won't work. That's a deal breaker.

(After the Flash install, it even takes you to an Adobe page that tells you you're all set! One other thing: If you pick Windows 32 bit, and Other Browsers on the Adobe download page - the file that downloads has the same title as the one for IE. I d/l them both, just to see.)

On web pages, there's a message where Flash should be running: Adobe Flash Player is missing, Click for plugin. I clicked and ran that a few times, before I went to Adobe AND download.com to get other executables to try.

On youtube videos, the vid screen is black and says, this video is currently unavailable. Load the same video in FF, no problem.

Under Plugins in the browser, there's nothing there.

What a bogus way to spend a Sunday, bleh!

I have been using Opera for a long time. It is indeed, and has always been, a struggle. Things like this are a perfect example, even if not Opera's fault. Oh, and always running Task Manager to watch my virtual memory, yeah, that's a good time, too.

You have a potentially great browser here. Why can't it be perfect?!

Guess we'll be waiting for a new version of Flash?

This problem did not occur after I've installed a new version of Opera or Flash player. So no change there but when I do a Windows System Restore, it solves the problem only for one session and Flash is gone again the next time I start my computer.

I've also scanned my computer for virus and found nothing.

Puzzling.

This is bizarre. I had rolled back to Opera 11... 52, I believe. Flash still wasn't working as described above; so I thought, WTH, let's bump it back up to 11.62.

Still no change. I minimized, closed the laptop, and went to bed.

This morning, everything is working! Now, I know I did leave the default on the Flash install screen selected for auto updates - but this is too strange.

Also, under plug ins, it shows as Shockwave Flash - 11,2,202,235.

(Btw, yesterday, when no plug in was showing - no plug ins at all were showing; so maybe that page had to repopulate?)

Well, yippee, so far...

Your solution worked for me too (so far) !
I still can't understand why/how this problem occurred. Anyway...

Thanks a lot!

Just be aware that operabugmenotopera's method will mean you'll have to remember to do this each time Flash updates. You don't want your Opera to keep using an old, insecure Flash version after it's updated on your system. Any reason why you can't just add C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash to the path in Preferences > Advanced > Content > Plugin Options if it's not already there?

Can someone explain EXACTLY why me and many others are unable to install Adobe flash in Opera?

I nearly buggered my PC up trying to find what was wrong....until I came here, and found many have same problem.

I pasted NPSWF32.dll into the Opera plug in folder...with no success.

Flash works perfectly with the other browsers.....and despite me using latest and older versions of Opera, it still will not work.

Therefore, it has to do with the latest Adobe Flash update. If I try to install a previous version of Flash, it wont let me. It says that "this is not the latest version" ....or words to that effect.

It is obviously an Adobe Flash issue....and they must be aware of it....so why are they not addressing it?

Any advice would be welcome,

Thanks.

Hi operabugmenotopera,

I went to the user prefs (opera:config#UserPrefs|PluginPath) as you suggested.

I then deleted ........C:\Program Files\Opera\program\plugins;C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\plugins;C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player....

then pasted .........C:\Program Files\Opera\program\plugins;C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash;C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\plugins;C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player......

I saved it, but it did not work for me.

Did I do it correctly?

Thanks.

Hi,
also I've the same problem.
I've edited the plugin path inserting the string "C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash", but it did not work.

The problem is with Opera 11.62 and the last flash.
I've tried to install Opera 12 beta and it work fine.

Hi operabugmenotopera,

I did as Robimo did, and installed Opera 12 Beta. Yes, the flash DID work....BUT Opera 12 was next to impossible to use....there are so many bugs.

I then downloaded the previous Opera Beta, and back to square one...no flash.

I did as you suggested, and unfortunately, it didn't work for me.

I'm hoping the next stable version of Opera will have sorted out this mess.

Thanks again for all your help.

HI operabugmenotopera,
I followed all your instructions, but in "Tools -> Advanced -> Plug-Ins" I found "None found".

The string in opera:config#UserPrefs|PluginPath is :
C:\Programmi\Opera\program\plugins;C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash;C:\Programmi\Windows Media Player;C:\Programmi\Java\jre6\bin\new_plugin\
"Programmi" because I'm italian.

I've tried to disable/re-enable, refreshing plugins, but nothing.
I've alse tried to uninstall/install both opera and flash, but nothing.

Instead in Opera 12 beta in Tools -> Advanced -> Plug-Ins I found many plugins and flash works correctly.

I don't know what to do confused

I tried them all, but there is no solution, only works with beta 12
I also copied NPSWF32_11_2_202_235.dll and NPSWF64_11_2_202_235.dll
I would try an old version of flash, but I do not know where to find it

I noticed an oddity when first testing 12.00-1389 beta in a USB installation. The first several pages I visited complained about flash not being installed, though it was working fine in all other installations, including earlier versions of 12.00 and 11.50+. Digging around, I noticed the Opera\program directory which contains the plugins subdirectory was missing a file named netscape.exe which was included in all installs the past few years. As soon as I copied it over (dated 3/6/2012, FWIW) those troublesome pages worked normally again.

Could be worth a try vs uninstalling / reinstalling Flash with no effect.

Copied the plugins from the Firefox plugin folder to the Opera plugin folder. Although it may only be a temporary fix, it solved the problem.

YESSSSS!!! It WAS Foxit Reader!

I uninstalled Foxit, and , Hey Presto, Flash was working fine again!

Thank's, onairda and operabugmenotopera.

Thats why some people did not have the same problem....because they don't use Foxit!

I had all the same problems with Flash plug-in.
I solve them in very simple way: I have set the Firefox as a default browser. No hassles with
plugins and other Opera problems (for example, Opera is refusing to load tables in CNBC Money page).
All browsers are free, so use the most robust of them.

Well, I surely spoke too soon.

Oh, and 11.64? Stupid me, to get my hopes up. No change.

Pages are still looking for the Flash plug in, and youtube is still working maybe 1/3 of the time. Other times, black screen, video "not available".

It just gets better. When I click a .pdf link, Foxit opens, as opposed to opening in the browser. And! In Facebook, when I click a link, the link opens in the same tab, as opposed to opening a new one.

So, WHY does none of this happen in FIREFOX???

So - Opera is basically unusable to me, as it stands. Once again, back to Firefox. I may just import my bookmarks and call it a damn day.

PS Whoohoo, at least my plug ins page finally populated.

Have you tried removing Foxit from your system altogether via the Add/ Remove program on the Control Panel?.
That is what I did.
I then uninstalled, then reinstalled Adobe Flash for non IE, and it then worked fine on Opera.
It is a FOXIT fault, not Opera.
Hope you can get it to work.

Aaaaah, it WORKED 1!! Thanks so much !!! I don't know how I missed the posts above me. Probably so insane with this, I just posted without checking.

Wellll, back to Adobe Reader, lol. Foxit has had its challenges. I thought I'd use it b/c it was 'lighter', but this (among other silliness) is NOT worth it.

Thanks again !!!

HERE we go again!
Now I'm unable to use Opera 12. After I install that latest version, Opera 12 freezes or stops downloading any Internet pages I try to view.
Any solutions?

Thank you

I don't have FOXIT on my computer and I am getting the same flash errors as everyone else. I keep getting blank pages on forums and other flash rich websites.

Can't install latest Flash version here either. Even when trying to install Flash after uninstalling properly with the Flash uninstaller, I keep getting a script warning message saying something like 'Chrome script check etc'.

Ok I am having some of the same problems. This morning I woke up and opened my laptop. I saw there was a flash update but I had other things to do so I hit remind me later. So I got to Opera, which I already had open. Could NOT type anywhere in the browser. Not web forms, not the address bar, not in seach.... nothing. So I closed Opera, thinking I would just reboot it. It would not load no matter what. So I uninstalled it, thinking I would just reinstall it. Nope, wrong again. The setup (no matter where I got it from) wouldn't install. It extracts, and that's it. It doesn't show in my processes or applications in the Task Manager. I'm about to tear my har out here... any ideas?

P.S. If I put this in the wrong thread, I apologize. I just googled my problem and got to here.
