System freeze after audio or video tag

My system freezes after opera plays an audio or video tag, the freeze is not immediate, it happens some seconds after I stop playing the video/audio.

it happened with many versions during last months but for sure I can tell it happens with clean installations of:
11.62.1347
12.00 alpha 1380

Last freeze happened after play a video here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rain#Remote_sensing

My pc has windows xp 32 bit, everything updated including drivers, o.s. and directx.

cpu: AMD Athlon XP
video: NVIDIA GeForce FX 5500 PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0326&SUBSYS_911A1462&REV_A1\4&1B197270&0&00F0
audio: Realtek AC'97 Audio PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_006A&SUBSYS_A0021458&REV_A1\3&13C0B0C5&0&30

the drivers are official drivers and I've tried with older versions and with original drivers, after every driver change I restart then test again, the freezes keep happening. I also tried to reformat with own and borrowed disks, using newest drivers, and the reformat again using older drivers, nothing seems to help.

My computer runs a lot of games and applications that use audio and video hardware acceleration, I never have computer freezes or applications issues, even with heavy multitasking.

Sent bug report some weeks ago got no answer to ask about system details, and obviously this is not happening on firefox or chrome.

Anywhere else I can ask for help?

Still happening on 12.01 internal 1491, with all plugins disabled.

Please fix this, I hate firefox and chrome but I can't use opera anymore.

I'm not really surprised that your having a problem with a page heavy in graphics your system specs are pretty poor for anything in this day and age instead of moaning that Opera doesn't work on your system try looking at your system first

CPU: AthlonXP ???? what speed is it, is it a thoroughbred or Barton core
RAM: ???????? you don't even say how much you have... but it doesn't really matter because it's unlikely your using fast ram
GPU: nVidia GeForce FX5500 let me guess AGP 256MB DDR or less
HDD: size speed free space

I'd expect problems doing just about anything with that system

seems like you didn't even read the 1st post, but bumps are welcome. A wikipedia page is kinda light, if we compare it to the average on the web.

hah I did actually read the first post and clicked on the link and if your machine is spazing on that page then it's time to look at upgrading your system instead of complaining that theres a problem with Opera or think about going back to Opera 11.60 or 11.50 if they worked ok for you

and I wouldn't even recommend running winXP on anything less than 1GB DDR400 ram and an Dual core CPU if you want a good experience

their recommended system specs are rubbish yeah sure it might work but not very well

Yesterday I disabled all the plugins to make a crash test on wikipedia again(just in case it was WMP), after the system froze I restarted it and I went to youtube, withouth the flash plugin youtube tried to load html5? video. It displayed a message saying "the video is not available" or similar, but the audio played and after closing the video(audio only) on youtube I got another system freeze.

@blackcoder
yes it is
opera:gpu contents

Hardware acceleration status
Hardware acceleration
Disabled
Direct3D 10
Backend not supported
Could not load library
OpenGL
Backend not supported
Could not load library

@Athlonite believe it or not a windows xp machine can still be "secured", having an older version of opera would make it unsecure, I don't have any clue about what experience you have with computers but for me I can do more things and do them faster with this computer than most high end computers users I've met, and for that I believe that I know what are the programs with better performance for many things, coding, compiling, graphics editing, video edit, video encoding, etc. I can easily tell that on most situations opera is the better performance browser. The recommended an minimum system requirements are supposed to be something where the application works without crashing the entire system. Obviously my ram usage is below 20% when I do the wikipedia tests, my hard disk space is around 50%/40gb and my cpu usage is below 20%. I can use many cpu and gpu intensive applications and audio hardware accelerated games as well as chrome or firefox without any issue or system freeze, I just like opera more.

I'd pay good money to see your machine beat an Phenom II x4 or an x2 for that mater in video editing/encoding but I digress

as I said if opera 11.50 or .62 worked for you then go back to them at the moment the builds they're putting out are very crash happy and bug ridden

as to my experience with computers Ive been building using and selling them for the last 20 years and the slowest machine I still have working for me is an old socket 754 Athlon64 3700+ with 2GB DDR400 ram and an 3.2TB's of HDD's and an ATI HD2600XT it serves my media around the house via windows 7 x64 which it actually runs far better than the XP pro I used to have on it

thanks for the bumps, you didn't mention the amount of tweaking it would take for 7 to run better than xp on any machine so you are a hardware guy, nice, ignore security? nice, here is my answer to you:

you shouldn't need to tweak anything for win7 to run on an winXP box my media box just has an standard install on it with MSE for security but seeing as it doesn't go out on the net except for windows updates it doesn't need much

and alot of security comes in the form of UPS (user preventable stupidity) and using a slightly older version of opera doesn't make your machine less secure you just need to watch where you go and what you do on the web ie: UPS

No freeze here. Tested in 2 laptops with Intel HD and Win7x64 and 1 desktop with Win7x86.

The specs on my desktop is like your computer:
1Gb RAM -> 2x512Mb
CPU AMD 1.666GHz
128Mb VRAM Nvidia 4000
C-Media AC97 Audio

And Win7 is running way faster than XP, just there's no Aero transparency. And had to install an older video driver.

I can reproduce the bug since months ago with many versions, even after reformat so it is hardware specific, and opera specific, no other audio/video application/webrowser has the problem on this computer, I have offered my computer on the bug reports so they can remotely test WHATEVER they want, but I never got answer.

I will make more tests today, let you know if I find anything else, thanks.

Bartman, are you using any downloaded codecs or just windows defaults?

I'm using K-lite Codec Pack with custom install. letting some codecs by windows.

I have had the problem in the past even before installing codecs, but I tried to uninstall klite codec pack(the only codecs I use), then restarted, opera still having this problem on version 12.02.1578

I stopped using opera for weeks because an unexpected system freeze caused by this Opera issue, made me lose another program configuration file, and that was really bad.

The thing still freezing, bug reports are being ignored and a long time has passed without a solution for this OPERA PROBLEM.

R.I.P. Opera for me

Disabled on board audio, bought a 10 USD sound card, now is fixed, I'll never know what was the problem but during this process I fell in love with Chrome :X
