Opera Mini 2.0 has been updated

Please go to mini.opera.com to download

Issues that have been solved:
  • Navigation animation should not disappear after memory problems
  • Bookmark list should not disappear after memory problems
  • Various Palm improvements, like less resetting
  • BlackBerry should now be able to download content

Enjoy!

Clarification, this fix is for some SonyEricsson, Siemens and Nokia devices where the option to turn on navigation animations might get disabled after a number of Opera Mini sessions with it enabled. More precisly non-symbian MIDP2 phones from these manufacturers with a screen width less or equal to 176 pixels is affected. If you run Opera Mini 2.0 on one of these devices, we strongly advice you to update. If you don't then we advice you to update anyway due to other bugfixes.

Worked, of course, but is definitely much more expensive than downloading via http and Bluetooth-Transfer

Agreed. I only get 2MB/mo. so I'd prefer to be able to manually download on my desktop and install that way.

How long before the desktop links point to the new version? I have a Motorola V635.
EDIT: nevermind, I see they're updated now. Thanks!

Nice to see you working on it. I'd be happy to see proxy support tied in.

We are still trying to solve that problem. As of yet we do not know if the problem is on our servers, some gateway/proxy in between, or in the client. We are still having a hard time reproducing the error on any of our devices (and we have a lot of them) in our end.

If it's not in the client, then the issue might get resolved by a server update, and thus not requiring you to download a new version of Opera Mini.

thanks guys and gals(manneS) ,i enjoyed that little vertical movement so much, i had downloaded OM 2.0 several times, because as you noted the lateral movement would disappear after 4-5 sessions. also i don't know if it was intended but i already noticed a change it in the way it "parcels" out the pages. i noticed that when 2.0 came out most of the web pages would get parceled into 2 or more pages (Cnn) ..this happened on all 3 downloads.now i get it all in one gulp.did i somehow hook up w/the low memory version the first 3 times and maybe get the high memory version this time?

We belive we have isolated the source of the problem. The problem we found is created by a combination of both to phone model, server version and if you run Opera Mini Basic or Advanced...

A server update should be enough to work around this problem. I have no ETA on when this will happen, but it should soon unless we find any negative side-effects from the workaround. We will let you know when the fix is rolled out.

Wow, I'm finally seeing jpeg images on my Toshiba vm4050, thank you very much!

However the images are rather small, and bigger ones are still not displayed at all. Can something be done to increase the image size at the expense of the text if need be?

Will the page-size jpeg images as in version 1.2 ever return?

Thursday, 18. May 2006, 22:26:40

Vour, rembemr to turn on high quality images. Also, from the bug report I seem to remember that you are running Opera Mini Basic on your device for some reason, basic never had fullscreen JPEGs. Shouldn't you be running Opera Mini Advanced on that device?

no, the phone he has the toshiba vm4050 is from the usa and works on sprints cdma network, the phone is a older midp1.0

Thursday, 18. May 2006, 22:39:16

I don't recall that we made any change on how big the images on webpages get's scaled to between 1.2 and 2.0, but I might be mistaken.

Christoffer, I did indeed have full screen sized jpeg images displayed with version 1.2. In fact I was surprised when I loaded Opera Mini on Sanyo 5600 and saw that its images were smaller than that of Toshiba vm4050.

We have explained this earlier, and will not do so again. Nagging will not make things better.

The workaround to remove the resets on Palm/Treo devices included lowering the image compression on those devices. The bad side is that some pages will get larger, the good side is that the images will look better and of course less resets (if any).

Thanks for replying..
Is lowering compression applied to images or text (html) or both?
because I don't tick 'Show images' option

Monday, 29. May 2006, 06:32:22

As far as i remember, it should only concern images. But we also tweak the partition size calculations on the servers now and then. It could of course also be a bug. If you want us to investigate it further, the please do an online bug report via "menu->tools->help->bug report" so that we get some important (non personal) information from your device. Thank you.
