I wonder if there should be a poll for that. Or maybe a poll tax.

I did.
The older members will remember that I was elected Emperor of D&D some time before the previous ice age. Now be a good chap and shove that representation nonsense where the sun doesn't shine or there will be unexpected company just after midnight irked

My Goodness! I do have a vague recollection… smile (But of course we won't discuss the merits of actual poll taxes! This is, after all, Berates & Obstructions…)

Who said he was self-appointed? (I don't remember taking part in the vote, but then I wouldn't have bothered with it.)

In any case, the poll tax is a bad idea. It's not a tax on excessive polling, but a tax on those who take part in voting. Poll taxes have a dark history here in the States as well, seems they were part of the old Jim Crow system. So, skip the poll tax.

It wasn't a formal election, no actual poll was taken. A few people gave Mac the title, and he used it as his title for some time (before the current Cthullu in a Christmas hat avatar and corresponding title). He was somewhat more active in this forum at the time, so you might argue that Jaybro or wikipedian would be the current holder ... (I know that mjmsprt40 would decline, so I'm not suggesting him.)

Who says you can't (well, you did, this is a rhetorical device). We may have an Emperor of D&D, a God of D&D, but there seems to be a vacancy for a God Emperor of D&D. Now that would be a triumvirate unlikely to get anything decided&done.

Pain...
Agony....
My hatred burns through the cavernous deeps. The world heaves with my torment. Its wretched kingdoms quake beneath my rage...
But at last...
The whole of Azeroth will break...
...And all will burn beneath the shadow of my wings...
