So sad to see Unite go, amazing utility, I use it nearly every day. I signed the petition but so few did.

Also, do you really expect Opera to spend lots of time doing what you ask? They are removing it because they don't want to spend more time and resources on it, and you are suggesting that they spend MORE?

I didn't create this petition.

And I suggest Opera keep Unite like they did for the past 2 years, that's all.

And if they really can't keep it (you say they don't want to spend time and ressources on it, but I'm wondering if they're not just trying to imitate Chrome/Firefox (keep extensions, remove all others features)) then I hope Unite won't be lost.

Unite as an extension ?
I'm not convinced, most of the extensions I've tried crash Opera.

Uh, isn't the point that they don't want to have to maintain it anymore? If it's there other stuff is going to affect it, and it will have to be maintained.

You should create a topic in the main forum to get visibility.

Look at that number of signatures...
It may grow after the actual users notice it's missing when they receive the 12.0 update, but not much I believe.

I think it can grow a lot after that really.

Maybe spreading the word through other channels could help. Even though slashdot [slashdot.org] is not so popular anymore, it might be a good place to start ---after all, Opera includes an easter egg for that web page.

Much like Rafaelluik said, although Unite is a part of the features removed it's not the only one... so putting a poll/petition in one of the more visible/active forums might help.

That said, like me, I know some who have commented here already, and others who are viewing... received an email/message to sign the petition... and although I agree that some of the stuff (that has or will be) removed shouldn't be... I won't bother signing the petition because it's too vague, and I think any protesting/petitions should be done on Opera's own website... *unless* they decide to start deleting them, then move it to a 3rd party website.

Create a poll listing which features are/will be removed, let people vote on which ones they want/use... point all your blogs, Facebook, Twitter, whatever you happen to use towards that thread. If it becomes necessary, then create sub-threads for the different features to discuss them more directly.

It's much easier for both users and Opera employees to keep track of stuff, reply, comment, etc.

Probably before that even happens, it might be worth contacting Opera to see if a poll/petition would even have any effect in the first place... (anyone willing to comment on that Ruari, Haavard, etc?), or whether it's set in stone already, and the only way Unite, IRC, BitTorrent will come back is via extensions if/once the API becomes useful. (admittedly, I don't care about Widgets whatsoever, and I think BT should be hardcoded, if only basic protocol support, no DHT, etc).

i believe they can get rid of it but at least have a backup for those that used it like the web server it was a nice thing to have to make a family web site or just one for friend im going to firefox even tho i dont want to bye opera.

Too bad that Unite will disappear. It made Opera stand a head taller in the crowd.
Unite allowed us to access home computer and view security-camera motion-captures.
Some private companies use similar technology and offer image upload to their site or
enable users to access their home computer, but at a steep monthly fee.
I wonder if those vultures had influence on the Unite's demise.

I hardly use Opera now and if FaceAche gets control of it I will uninstall altogether.
