How to import Bookmark file
I've saved my Bookmarks from Google Chrome in a particular directory. Unfortunately and not knowing why, Opera does not give us the option of importing Bookmarks from Google. Neither does it show any option to bring it from a Directory where it is saved in as a Bookmark file - as far as I can see. My question for today is - is there indeed a way for Opera to import from a Bookmark file?Remember please, to type slowly in all responses in order for me to understand what is being said. Thanks!
What format of bookmark file?
Opera knows how to import IE Favorites (which are url files stored in a folder hierarchy), bookmarks stored in an HTML file (as Firefox does), Opera's own format, and Linux versions can also import Konqueror bookmarks. All those options are available under (menu) > Settings > Import and Export > ... or also in the Bookmark Manager on the File button (or the Bookmarks panel on the context menu, under File).

The format is HTML. I realize Opera can import from what you have mentioned but --- can I'm trying to find out if it can take a Bookmark file saved in a particular directory.
Good - I have a Bookmark file (HTML) saved in a directory. I do not see any way in Opera that I can grapple that file and bring it over to Opera. I understand one can bring bookmarks from Opera / Explorer / Firefox but I need to bring it from a file - the file is Google Chrome Bookmarks exported to a directory. I cannot export it from Google Chrome to Opera nor vice versa. Thus m question - can and how do I bring it from the directory, or can I at all?
You could use a third party program like Transmute the free version should fill your needs.

Luxor, I've tried that but after doing what I think I'm supposed to do with it, I still cannot find where the Chrome Bookmarks are in Opera. Suggestions are welcome - and hopefully free of charge!!!??! :-)
Open the bookmarks panel, and use Quick Find to search for one of the bookmarks that you know are there. They will be imported into the selected folder IIRC.

Ok - I have made a mistake and did this part right - I found the Bookmarks - but when I type in the particular Bookmarks file, that's all that happens - it's there but what do I do with it now to open it? Nothing that I can see is or has been imported .......
Ok - I think I've got this now. Somehow I flipped off the rails and did it right. Thanks again for the help(s). Appreciated!
This is absurd. I have read all of these posts and do not see anything that will get my bookmarks copied from IE to Opera.
Transmute is not understandable and tells me that nothing will save unless I pay money.
Why is it so hard to simply put the most obvious of needs into simple terms? Opera looks goods, but is worthless if I can't import my bookmarks.

Pesala suggests that I use "another method such as Opera Link Bookmarks" and offers a link that leads to a page that says: Access denied.
Thanks, that's as much help as anything else here.

It's simple.

Rubbish! It is free to download and use, you just don't get the advanced features if you don't pay for it.
Besides you don't need it to import your IE favourites.
Ctrl+Shift+B to open the bookmarks manager. Click on File > Import Internet Explorer Favourites.

Luxor:
Thanks for the quick reply.
Transmute offers an "EXPLORE" feature that IDs my BMs.
Then what?
There is nothing that says "import to ..."
At the top of the page it says: "Demo mode: changes to Bookmarks will not be saved. Purchase."

OK. Ctrl+Shift+B to open the bookmarks manager. Click on File > Import Internet Explorer Favourites.
That's the solution! Thanks!
why was that so hard to get to?
I appreciate that answer, Luxor. Best to you.

Well, it would, since it was a link to Crankshaft's bookmarks, not to yours, but the link had an extra forward slash in it, so it would not have worked for him either.
These are your bookmarks on Opera Link or just use the Opera Link item on the Opera drop down menu at the top of the forum.

It sounds like you have downloaded the Pro Version not the Free (Standard) version.
Download the free version from here
Then it is as easy to use as 1,2,3.

Thanks for clarifying, Pesala. I saw a link and clicked on it. It didn't go anywhere helpful. That's all I'm saying. Just part of the frustrating world of trying to get away from Internet Explorer 9. I hope the creator of IE9 get one right between his legs real soon...
There ought to be a link in bookmarks for importing that doesn't require knowing the secret "Ctrl+Shift+B."
