Notifications for MyOpera Web Mail?
Is there a way to set up some type of pop up notification when a new email arrives on the MyOpera webmail server?I've searched here and found nothing. Frankly having a few different types of email services in the same forum is a bit confusing and that goes for the blog as well.
I tried setting up a jabber account with Pidgin and got nothing when a new email was received. I'm surprised there is an extension for Gmail notifications but not for Operas own webmail service.
The webmail is great it loads very fast etc although I can't even set it up in Opera 12 so I went back to 11.64
Thanks in advance for any help.
I set up the built in browser mail account to download all the Opera webmail messages via POP so I get the pop up. There doesn't seem to be a way to have the pop up stay till I close it.
A notification extension for Opera's own webmail though would be a better solution. Maybe there is one but I can't find it?

Hi there,
Welcome to the forums. It is a bit confusing having several different kinds of email services in different places, isn't it? Anyway, I'm glad you found the right place for your questions.
We don't currently support external notifications for My Opera Mail, but it's something we may do in the future. I've taken note of your request now, so we will track it internally.
When you say you can't set it up in Opera 12, could you explain in a little more detail what you mean? Can you not log in? Can you not create a new account? Everything works just fine for me - I'm really interested in knowing what went wrong for you.
Thanks!

I was using 12 because it seemed even faster than 11.64 and I have been getting tired of Gmail's slow loading because of features I don't care about.
Anyway so I ran across the MyOpera webmail and set up an account but when I went into the account and clicked on the line in settings to make it the mailto email nothing happened at all and choosing opera web mail in the programs section caused it to go to fastmail which I tried once - the interface is lousy. No mailto link capability would have been a a killer for me.
So I tried the same thing on 11.64 and it worked like a charm.
This is the best webmail there is period and I have used them all. I'm still running XP so I'm not sure if that has anything to do with but I have it set up just for web surfing with barely anything running in the background.
To be honest this MyOpera webmail is so much better than what else is out there I believe if there were extensions to make it the default on other browsers I bet people who tried it would use it. I realize that is not the goal but I just wanted to let you know how good it is. The built in mail causes the pop up and I have it set to delete messages after 10 days.

Hm, that definitely works for me in Opera 12.
Try going in to Opera's Preferences, then click on the Advanced tab, then Programs.
You should see a mailto protocol there. Click to edit it, and select My Opera Mail from the webmail list.
If that doesn't work, try deleting all entries associated with the mailto protocol, then try setting My Opera Mail as the default from with the My Opera Mail settings.
Let me know how you go

I removed Yandex, Mail.ru, and Fastmail from the defaults and still nothing happens when I click on "Open email links from other sites in My Opera Mail"
Isn't there a mailto: set up that I can copy and paste into defaults webmail? I used to have to do that with Gmail wherever I update Opera.

I'm very close with this after trying a few I copied part of the Fastmail mailto string.
It actually goes to the correct compose page with the info but the page looks broken with graphics missing.
[Opera]
ID=2
URL=https://mail.opera.com/action/compose/?mailto=%s
ICON=https://mail.opera.com/favicon.ico

I did a completely new install of 12 no user data etc and I was able to set if up through myopera by clicking on the line in settings.
However when I went to click on a link the pop up asks me if I want to use opera webmail I click on it and the browser crashes.

Just to note I just tried to see about MyOpera mail in Chrome and when clicking on the line in settings Chrome asks whether to use MyOpera mail as default!
I'm sorry to hear you've had so many problems with it. Sadly I can't reproduce your issues here though, and everything looks fine
If you do manage to see it again though, please let us know.

It might be better to set up an IMAP to connect to it. Then, since you're not concerned about the content of the messages, In the account's properties, you can set "do not make messages available offline" and "do not download attachments". Avoid messing with low-bandwidth mode though.
For the check interval, you can set it to 30 minutes. You'll still get notifications of new messages in the Inbox right away because of IMAP IDLE. The 30 minute check is to just make sure IDLE doesn't time out.
Now, the notification will disappear after a few seconds but you'll see an envelope in the systray/taskbar (depending on OS) when there are new messages.

If you successfully set mail.opera.com as the mailto handler, you should have something like:
[mailto] Type=Protocol Handler Webhandler=https://mail.opera.com/m/#/compose?%s Description=My Opera Mail Flags=16
in handlers.ini in the mail folder.
And, "Ctrl + F12 -> advanced -> programs -> mailto -> edit" should be set to "use a web-mail service" where it's set to "My Opera Mail".
So, in the future, you can check those things if the problem happens again.
Also, if you see crashes again, you can close down Opera and delete handlers.ini. It'll reset the preferences you have for all your types in "ctrl + F12 -> advanced -> downloads", but it should then makes things work again.
Also, in "defaults/webmailproviders.ini" in Opera's program files folder, there are a couple of default providers defined. That's not really meant for users to edit and will be overwritten on upgrade.
Also, see this older info on this subject <http://my.opera.com/operawiki/forums/topic.dml?id=1190592>.
If x-notifier had a script for MyOpera webmail that would be great. You can set it up so that the pop up stays up til manually closed.
I have a request in with webmail notifier to create a script for MyOpera webmail. I gave them an old MyOpera account & password to work with.
