Who ordered the bombing of Flight Pan Am Flight 103?

Following the death of al-Megrahi, there remain questions about the bombing of Flight 103 which resulted in 270 deaths in total, on the plane and on the ground where it crashed at Lockerbie:

Did al-Megrahi act alone?
Which other people were involved?
Who ordered the bombing?
If it was not al-Megrahi, who, then, was responsible?

These questions have been around since the bombing and investigations are continuing, not least in Scotland:

New Lockerbie inquiry rejected by (British) PM as Abdelbaset al-Megrahi dies] which is probably the case but it would be astonishing if the UK was not also quietly continuing its investigations at some level.

No doubt many conspiracies will be suggested along the way, but it is important for the relatives of those killed that the whole truth be known, not least to discourage similar adventures by leaders of other rogue states.

(NECN) - The only person ever convicted in the 1988 bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 has died, according to his son. Abdel Baset al-Megrahi, 60, had been suffering from prostate cancer. The Libyan intelligence officer died Sunday, nearly three years after he was released from a Scottish prison to the outrage of the relatives of the attack's 270 victims. Scotland released al-Megrahi on Aug. 20, 2009, on compassionate grounds to let him return home to die after he was diagnosed with terminal cancer. At the time, doctors predicted he had only three months to live.

"Compassionate grounds"! That's a travesty. What's wrong with the UK's legal system?

Not UK legal system: it was the Scotish legal system.

On compassion, nor do I. But not across the board. Not a whit of compassion for somebody who kills 270 people, or who rapes five year old girls.

Seriously though I don't know why you don't know because I referred to it a looong time back! I also indicated more recently in a thread that it was part of the 1707 Union of Parliaments that the Scots Legal system and Kirk would re,ain in their positions. The other day in a thread I indicated the case was still legally open so you obviously didn't see that one either. Anyway, the UK government didn't agree with the Scottish decision and still doesn't. I have no general principled ojection to compassion in our legal system which Americans will find a hard one to understand as their legal system etc is an awful lot more harshful and revengeful leaning. It is all part of different cultures Jaybro.

In Scotland it has also became a political issue with the leading oposition party in the Scots Parliament indisagreement with the SNP Justice Minister. A well known doctor here who often represents British/Scottish victime including his daughter is strongly of the view that Megrahi is possibly innocent and a sacrificial lamb. It also appears that there seems to be an understanding that there is evidence not included in the trial. If the man is definitely guily he deserved to stay in jail. Our Lord Advocate has been to Tripoli to ascertain if the disjointed bunch who are trying to keep Libya in one piece will co-operate. The previous incumbent the Baron Boyd has publically expressed the view that the family and other sipporters who want an appeal to be considerd should be given the right.

I doubt very much that one person did the diabolical crime and also open-minded as to whether the now dead convicted man is the real culprit. So the legal situation is in terms still "open."

Oh, I've had my share of fame old yin. Been interviewed ipn the radiot twice the tv once. Met some very important wallahs. Two First Ministers an assortment including a General, Lords of The Realm, Knights, etc. You see I get out of a chair! So why should I want to succumb to being your impression when I have well proved otherwise? You do in fact parrot chirp here continually yourself on me, my grey cells or anything to do with me. Enjoy the fascination. Shame you are too far to meeet me and I would stretch a point doing so outside the normal, important people I meet.

Yet again you wonder off for a wee dig but you are easy pleased so enjoy yourself. For the rest of us the situation regarding Lockerbie has all sorts of oddities including evidence apparently not involved in the Court. Those close to the dead man and who regarded him as not guilty are still considering an appeal so the saga will continue for a time due to the intrigue and the sheer scale of the horror. Will it ever end - who knows? After all there were oddities in the JFK assassination and that one is still causing arguments to this day.

Then there is how Pan Am bombed. It's gone a decade since 2001 and those flights are still not in schedule.
