My laptop with the appropriate software could do the job much faster. It doesn't require a tape feed.

Or tubes. Or mechanical relays. (The Forbin Project showed a machine that would be laughable by today's standards.)

mjmsprt, I'm surprised you didn't know Bellamy salute. It was mandated by US schools and copied by Nazis. Don't they teach history in USA?

I know of the Bellamy salute because I try to keep my informed. I understand it was required.

I went through the whole US school history regimen and the Bellamy salute was never brought up. We tend to gloss over or disregard history that is "not comfortable." After all,if we denigrate something such as the Nazi salute, it wouldn't be very comfortable admitting we forced out children to do the same. Through the 10th grade, in HS, my peers and I were required to do our daily Pledge of Allegiance to the flag. Most of us thought it was absolute bs, doing the same exact thing day after day, after day. It lost all meaning. To think you can inculcate patriotism and love of country by required rote repetition is totalitarian thinking.

Cultural or tribal symbolism is interesting. Imagine if the Nazi used a salute of placing the right hand over the heart, with "My true Heart is given to the Fuhrer." In the US we then would certainly still be using the Bellamy salute while denigrating and trying to forbid that Nazi right hand over the heart salute. But because the Nazis copied or coincidentally used our salute, we ended up changing ours.

A sick country that bait its people to be criminal. When someone complains government wrong doing, will it be a trap?
.
Quote, "Informant: NYPD paid me to 'bait' Muslims

By ADAM GOLDMAN and MATT APUZZO | Associated Press – 10/23/2012

NEW YORK (AP) — A paid informant for the New York Police Department's intelligence unit was under orders to "bait" Muslims into saying inflammatory things as he lived a double life, snapping pictures inside mosques and collecting the names of innocent people attending study groups on Islam, he told The Associated Press.

Shamiur Rahman, a 19-year-old American of Bangladeshi descent who has now denounced his work as an informant, said police told him to embrace a strategy called "create and capture." He said it involved creating a conversation about jihad or terrorism, then capturing the response to send to the NYPD. For his work, he earned as much as $1,000 a month and goodwill from the police after a string of minor marijuana arrests.

The U.S. is indeed a "sick country." However the U.S. is only the result of empire building, and in understanding the problem, one must go straight to the source.

Salutes problem/ Let's include the Italians and comrade Benito (remebering the Romans) as around 1925 they made it a requirement rather than a handshake. The Jerries naughtily stole it.

Much in the world is revolting.

In 1999, Martti Ahtisaari’s Finnish government supported official government plans to honor and to commemorate Finland’s Nazi Waffen SS violunteers during World War II. The Finnish government plan was to mark the graves of Finnish Nazi Waffen SS volunteers who had been killed in the Soviet Union. Finland had over, 1,400 Finnish volunteers in the Nazi Waffen SS, 300 of whom were killed in the Ukraine and in the Caucasus. Finland concluded a secret agreement with Nazi Germany before the invasion of the USSR that would allow Finland to secretly send Finnish volunteers to Heinrich Himmler’s Waffen SS forces. Himmler formed a Finnish Waffen SS Volunteer Battalion from these Finnish troops called “Nordost”. This Finnish Battalion was attached to the “Nordland” Waffen SS Regiment of the 5th SS Division “Wiking”, one of the most brutal and fanatical Nazi SS Divisions of World War II, commanded by Felix Steiner.

And so? Didn't the USA and Gt Britain support the USSR during WW2? Indeed we lost countles ssailors in the Artic convoys to the other dictatorship that killed millions of it's own people. Of course two wrongs as we know do not make a right but let's not be too cosy on political comfort. In addition just look at all the evil dictatorships the US ably supported in S. America for a century or so! What a situ. It would be right behind any terrible dictator as long as he was anti-Red. Two great democracies hand in hand with a brutal dictatorship like the USSR that murdered people at whim too and probably the red menace killed even more than the Nazis did. There was also a Free Russia Army when a couple of Red Army Divisions defected. Not because they wre wanting to be National Socialists but wanted the USSR to go.

And that link again beiron, well illustrates the almost juvenile attitude of American nationalism (they think other countries can practice nationalist agendas but somehow they don't). The flag is everywhere except in the toilet although Jaybro might confound that one. It's one thing acknowledging your flag but if you have to have it everywhere with all that daftness that comes with it then you are too nationalistic or a lot of brain washed dafties. The country lives on mythology and wrongly based assumptions the world wants to be dominated by it's contradictory system and practices. Much of the country's over-the-top nationalism (although with I oft acknowledge there are decent folk) is enough to make you "boke" as we would would say here. Trouble is the sick bag ain't big enough!

I was very young at the time, and the Germans were bad and the Russians were good and the idea of the Finns preferring the Germans over the Russians was incomprehensible to me.
A less partisan version of history explains why they felt that way.
"The enemy of my enemy is my friend." I can now see why a patriotic Finn would have jumped at the chance to ally himself with any enemy of the Russians.
