Opera Mini 7 for Java and BlackBerry
The long wait is over
Today we are releasing Opera Mini 7. Since the Opera Mini Next release we have received lots of feedback. Thank you!
Opera Mini 7 includes all the features introduced in Opera Mini Next:
- Smart Page gives you an overview of your favorite sites, latest updates from social networks (Twitter and Facebook), news gathered from your sites and suggested links.
- Support for more than 9 speed dials.
- Right-to-left support in UI.
- Tab improvements.
- No more "www." in address bar.
For the final version we have made the following changes:
- Improved stability and performance for Nokia S40 devices. The main concern for these devices is the limited memory set aside for Java applications (often only 2 MB). We have both lowered the memory used by Opera Mini itself and the size of the loaded pages.
- Speed dials on Java devices will now show the title instead of a spinner while waiting for the thumbnail to load. This should make it easier to scroll through speed dials.
- Fixed an issue with loading the wrong page when a link was clicked.
- Removed a bogus text wrapping setting that was introduced in Opera Mini Next.
- Fixed more right-to-left (RTL) issues. There are still device specific bugs, but those are mainly caused by limited or no device support for RTL.
- General performance optimizations and UI fixes.
- Made Opera Mini work on Samsung S8500 Wave and Samsung S8600 Wave 3.
- Fixed a connection issue with newer Samsung devices.
To download Opera Mini 7 visit http://m.opera.com on your phone.
Please report any bugs in our bug report wizard.
Enjoy!

Problems regarding saved pages still there and the bookmark short cut have changed. And it just hangs again. In comparison to opera 4 versions this is way way too slow.

I just tested this again and it works fine. It would be helpful if you could post what device you are using and also the build number of Opera Mini (see Help -> About Opera and the version string). Current version is 7.0.22915 for J2ME and 7.0.29990 for BlackBerry.
I'm using v7.0.29915 for j2me on nokia 5800. When i opened a saved page, it said the saved page is not compatible and asked me to reload it. In that particular case, the saved page was a twitter search saved either last year or the year before, and wouldn't be the same to reload again. It's no big deal for me as I'm using om for s60 now, and in fact it was most probably saved from v5.1.

Didn't found a bug yet. So, good one. Keep up the hard work opera team. Although I am slightly disappointed with the same old, slow download manager.
This is the worst thing of Opera. Please improve it guyz. Also looking forward to see if this version too crashes or not, like the older ones. Hope this issue is solved. :|

That's dependent on your network carrier, not Opera Mini 7.

1. OM7 has 2 zoom levels instead of 1 and text does not wrap to the screen after the 2nd zoom. This is highly irritating as horizontal scrolling is needed. Overall, text wrapping to screen width is very poor when compared to the BB browser.
2. OM7 looses connectivity after being left open for a while. Trying to open a page will result in the connection not available pop up being displayed. OM7 will then need to be restarted.
Otherwise I'm loving OM7.

As your wish

Well, Opera Mini is a cost cutter and it'll screw up your network carrier.

I use a Blackberry 8900 (Os 5.1) and I have a big issue with the RSS Feed in OM7, and never happens before. When I check my feeds, Opera load tiles and other graphics surrounding the feed list and in every feed I open (and shows nothing in this graphics, just passes from gray area to white), becoming more heavy and slow to use, I open 3 feeds in separate tabs, a newspaper, a tech blog and crackberry.com RSS, I reach the 3rd tab, and the other tabs erases and shows "this tab has erased for recover memory, please update". I go back to OM6 and still happen (but I stay in OM6 'cos manage memory a little bit better), so i think your servers are sending all that crap in the feeds (killing the supposedly light of RSS rather a complete web page) please return to the older view of RSS feed or please fix. Thanks for your time and your work.
For some reason the RSS Feeds built in Opera Mini 7 (and OPM 6.5.2 too) changes the layout adding unnecessary graphics, I made the report bug ID: SKIRNE-174551 about this issue, but still happens and slowing the feeds (not web pages, just the feeds) maybe if I showing the problem you can solve:
(This made in Opera mini 7 and OM6.5.2 for blackberry OS5 in spanish, I have to mention i stick with OM6 because handles a little better the load of unnecessary graphics rather than OM7)

So please, please go back to the older layout in RSS Feeds built in Opera Mini, or please, please fix!!!
Thanks

I use a Samsung GT-B5722 and with my phone browser, the prescribed opera mini is opera mini 7,but after downloading it, it didn't open due to java error.Meanwhile I already have opera mini 4.4 and when I tried using it to download opera mini 7, the device detected was Samsung SGH-E860V, which is not my device.
I'm a bit new to the world of Opera Mini. I just got a new phone (Samsung GT-C3322) and went straight to the Opera site where it suggested I download OM7. I did, but when I launched it I got this same Java error.
What to do?
Will be very, very grateful if someone or some mod will enlighten me with regards to this issue. I really want to try version 7 you see ._.

I was just wondering.. will downloading this newest version of Opera Mini delete/remove/clear the data (eg. saved pages, bookmarks, settings, etc.) stored in the previous older version? Because currently my opera link isn't working (and hasn't been for the past few months), so I'm afraid that downloading another version of Opera Mini will not retain all my existing data. I'm using version 6.5 and a J2ME/Java phone.

You don't have to mod opera mini, just instal 2 version, one is your 6.5 and other v7, but first you must change the name through midlet, and don't download from m.opera.com,it will replace your 6.5

I'm sorry, but I totally didn't understand that xD Could you explain more thoroughly what I'm required to do? Thanks!
but first you must change the name of opera mini, default name or v6.5 which installed in your phone is 'opera mini', you must change it to 'opera mini 7' or up to you in order to not replace your old opera,
how to change it,
you must have blueftp, moby explorer in your phone, and the .jar file of opera mini v7,open blueftp and click .jar of opera mini, and extract all inside it to new folder, open mobyexplorer and search 'META-INF' in new folder, open it and double click MANIFEST.MF and edit 'Midlet-Name: opera mini' for example and change it into 'Midlet-Name: Opera Mini 7' then save it, after you save there will .bak file, delete it exit moby and open again blueftp, select all the extracted file and extract to jar 'Menu-Compress items (jar)'

ETA1: Figured it out. However, I encounter a "ZIP format error" message while extracting. The message: "Encountered problems with the format of currently processed file. Reason: CRC check failed for file a". This message seems to appear for all .class files. Any idea on how to fix this??
ETA2: Also, where is this jar 'Menu-Compress items (jar)' you mentioned?

Okay, I did what you said. But when I selected the new .jar file "operamini7.jar" and pressed "yes" when it asked me to install, a message saying "invalid file" came up. What went wrong?
