Opera Mini for Bada Samsung Wave Y

Is it possible to download Opera Mini for Bada from anywhere other than Samsung Apps?

I have a Wave Y running Bada 2 in the UK and Samsung Apps will not allow me to download Opera. It keeps telling me that Opera Mini is not available for the Samsung Wave Y.

Solved update Samsung Apps firsts, before trying to load Opera!

Opera is the first thing I add to any new Linux/FreeBSD set-up, or device.

How do you update Samsung Apps? I don't see any update option in the menus. Every time I try to download Opera Mini from Samsing Apps, I get Error Service unavailable (8001)

Hi Yeswap

I a rush so will post a fuller reply later. Have a look at the following link, it lists two Samsung App links for Opera Mini, one for the Wave 1/2/3, and one for the Wave M/Y. I'm wondering if I had so much difficulty because I had the wrong link.

Will post again when I'm not in a rush.

List of things I did to install Opera Mini, commencing from switching the phone on for the first time:

Clicked on Samsung Apps. Found Opera Mini.Clicked download. Told to register. Registered. Clicked Opera Mini install, informed not available for my device (Wave 3, and another phone only). Decided the UK site must not believe the Wave Y is being used in the UK (Samsung website states it is unavailable - I bought mine for £53.99 from Phones4U on my local High Street). Decided to try Samsung Apps India, so changed location. Update Apps came up again - updated. Tried to install Opera Mini, hung "waiting" for several minutes. Switched the phone of and on again. Retied several times, hung "waiting" each time I clicked on install - and then one time it just worked instantly.

This makes me think that there may be more than one install link depending upon Wave model, as per Bada Forum.

So far very pleased with the Wave Y, a smart phone for less than the price of many dumb phones (at least in the UK market).

Opera Mini on Bada is great, Thank You, Opera.

When I was thinking of buying a Bada based phone I was uncertain as to it being any good. There was very little in the way of nu-biased review. Having had it a while now I would state that Bada is superb, and that the Wave Y is exceptional value for money. I have posted some pictures on my blog ~

Do not let unfamiliarity put you off.

Bada is Good!

bada is only good if you are in a country where bada phones are officially sold and supported. Samsung blocks app downloads and OS updates in unsupported countries. You used to be able to work around that by putting in a SIM, even an inactive one, from a supported country but that doesn't work any more.

Samsung must support Bada in the UK, because Samsung Apps gives the prices for paid apps in £ Stirling on my phone. My Wave Y must be intended for UK sale, it has a three pin UK plug on the charger.

There seem to be two versions of Samsung Apps, one from the Icon on the phone and one through a browser. Through the Icon works better.

Would it be possible for Opera to have its own Bada download version, on the "Choose a specific version" page?
