Cannot open .pdf file in O12
Hi,today i update to O12 but a bug occurs; in previous versions i had no troubles with opening .pdf files in the O as a new tab, but now it opens a new tab, but after a while of loading there is a nothing else than a blank window. I reinstalled acrobat reader plug-in, but no effect. any ideas?
I am still using Opera 11.64 as my default browser due to the many other issues, but this one seems to be OK. First time loading of a PDF was always slow, but now seems even slower.

Upgraded to Opera 12 and was not able to open .pdf files anymore on websites viewed with Opera. Only blank pages appear.
Downgraded to Opera 11.64 again and will upgrade only when this is fixed...
Anyone got a clue how to fix this or if the Opera crew is onto it?
BTW: running Opera 64-bits version

I suggest you to try SumatraPDF ( in custom install mode check all the features including plugin)
Two years ago after his advice i installed X-Change. But it is poorly designed for small screens of ultralaptops, and the 3.0 GUI redesign they promised "just coming" is two years behind the date now.
Once i got a damaged PDF file, so i tried SumatraPDF - the only viewer that could open it.
After that i de-installed X-Change in 3 months, just like i did with Adobe and Foxit after seen X-change.
There might be good reasoning to have all those X-Change features, but in-browser plugin should be lightweight, fast and error-proof.
So for Linux my choice is gPDF and for Windows - SumatraPDF in full install mode.
If u have both installed, then u can in Opera settings choose which plugin to use and finally make your last choice :-)

Adobe was always very picky and fragile. Foxit is less so in 2.x versions but to 4.x/5.x it also got very picky.
So to be on reliable side - X-Change or Sumatra :-)

Because it is really installed twice on your computer.
IDK what or who did it, but u can see it is really duplicated :-)
somebody can help me?
Did you check in Sumatra installation of plugin ?
Did you changed Opera preferences to use Sumatra for PDF ?
what and where went wrong after that ?

I tried Sumatra before, and the latest version is no better. I consider it to be not worth using since it cannot properly display PDF comments, let alone add or edit them. However, a tooltip does at least show the comment text. The standalone viewer has a bookmarks panel, but the plugin does not. This is another deal-breaker for me — if a PDF has bookmarks, then I want to be able to use them to navigate.
Facing page views are also not supported when using the plugin. Anyone with a wide-screen monitor may want to see two facing book pages together.

After installing it, Sumatra did not show up as an available plugin for Opera 12.00. I looked in Sumatra's Settings dialogue, but found nothing there. I reininstalled it and checked the options on the install dialogue, where I found the option to install the plugin for Chrome, Firefox, and Opera. This is similar to PDF-XChange, where you choose the plugin options on installing the program.Did you check in Sumatra installation of plugin?

For me, with 32-bit Opera 12.01 on Windows XP, there is no problem with any of the plugins that I tried: Adobe Reader X, PDF-XChange, Foxit, and Sumatra.
This might be a problem only with the Opera 64-bit version.

you can not load 32-bit DLL into 64-bit program, at least Windows does not aid it like it aided to smooth Windows 1-3 to Windows 95-ME transition.
I use Opera x64 plus Sumatra x64 and it works well to me (maybe i just didn't meet really complex PDF documents, that Pesala reported would render faluty)

It has, by the same F12 hotkey. But they really did not made toolbar button for it neither context menu...

u did not told what program u use to view PDFs.
The same suggestion: install either Tracker PDF X-Change Viewer (for feature richness) or SumatraPDF (for speed) paying attention to install both program plus browser plugin.
After that re-launch Opera, check in plugins list ("opera:plugins" page URL) that u have that plugin found and engaged by Opera.
After that go to Opera preferences and set PDF files to be rendered by that very plugin.
Still it works fine inside Opera x64 12.0 build 1497

There is no evidence to show that the plugin from Adobe is the cause of this problem. It would be better advice to say use a more reliable version of Opera. The problems seem to lie with the 64-bit version, so try the 32-bit version of Opera 12.00 or use Opera 11.64 until this issue is fixed. Then use more reliable plugin than Adobe

That is a kind of arguments about terms.
If Google+ works with IE, Moz and WebKit, but not with Opera - is Opera to blame ?
I may agree that Opera might be less tested against.
After all it is just not supported - http://www.adobe.com/products/reader/tech-specs.html
However, if to take Opera as invariant i for years had troubles with Adobe in Opera, had less troubles with Foxit and had no compatibility troubles with X-Change and Sumatra.
To me it sounds as choice of priorities.
If one looks for help in Opera forum, not in Adobe forum, then Opera is an environment invariant to him, then it is Adobe, which is unreliable given certain users environment.

Install some time-proven reader like SumatraPDF (light and small, many formats including PDF, tolerant of corrupt PDFs) or PDF-XChange (feature-rich, can show PDFs too complex for Sumatra), then go into opera config and set one of those plugins for PDF files
It's the Protected mode in newer versions of Adobe Reader that prevents the plugin from working correctly.
I've disabled in Adobe Reader to run in Protected Mode at startup and now pdf file open flawlessly in Opera 12.14.
To disable Protected Mode, open Adobe Reader, go to Preferences/Security (Enhanced) and uncheck Enable Protected Mode at startup.
Pdfs should now open in Opera using Adobe's plugin.
