Opera 12 not displaying Yahoo mail properly...

Hi-

I updated Opera today, and Yahoo mail is unreadable. I can see my main page where it shows the email subjects, folders, and everything else normally. But when I try to open any email to read it, the area that normally contains the body of the email is solid black. Imagine clicking on an email subject line to open it, and instead of having a white background with black text, the whole thing is solid black with NO text. Changing the Browser ID to anything other than "Identify as Opera" makes the page display unusable. I took and saved a screen-shot, but since there is no attachment option here I don't know how to post it. Copy and paste isn't working either. I hope the description is sufficient to convey the problem...

So, any ideas?

Thanks,
Dave

Disable "Show active frame border" in Style options. Someone else pointed out earlier this was making the entire frame black.

That worked like a champ, thanks!! To help out others like me who may not be Opera experts just yet, here's how to find it:

In Opera (not Yahoo's settings):Tools>Preferences>Advanced>Content>Style options

Hi All,

I also have a problem with Opera 12 not displaying Yahoo Mail properly, but my problem is different than DDFerrari's. I get a white area where the inbox message list should be shown, but the leftmost 2 inches of the Yahoo page is correctly displayed, as is the topmost 2 inches. Using the suggestion from Sgunhouse didn't change anything for me. Any other suggestions?

The previous version of Opera (v. 11.xx) worked great, so v. 12 does something differently.

Thanks!

Everything looks fine here, except that I'm never getting a "Frame" submenu on the context menu. According to the Info panel there's about a dozen frames on that page ...

I'm having this very same problem with my Yahoo Mail too, since updating to 12.0. Opera 11.64 (for Linux-Ubuntu 10.04) worked fine. I also notice that none of my pages seem to be completely loading because the little round "clock" (it would be an hourglass in Windows) on my cursor showing that something is in process continues nonstop as if a page never completely finishes loading. And on all of my open tabs at the top, a similar version of this appears. It is an arrow continuously circling clockwise.

Note to pcutt: If you desperately need to see your Yahoo Mail messages, try clicking on the "show print view" option. I did that and the message did appear in a column form for printing. If it's something important that you need to read, this might work for you until the basic problem is solved.

Not necessarily ... I see an activity cursor in Linux even when nothing is loading, Opera appears to be not always resetting it. (When I move my mouse outside Opera, a standard cursor appears - and it stays as a standard cursor when I return to Opera.)

As far as Yahoo, I suppose I need to ask - is this yahoo.com or some national version (as in, yahoo.co.uk or whatever).

It's yahoo.com -my mail page shows [http://us.xxx.yahoo.com/mc/welcome]. (I left out my identifier). And thanks for the info about the spinning cursor. Annoying as it is, I can learn to live with it as long as I know it doesn't signal some problem.

The precise server wouldn't mean much, and may even vary depending on traffic. I just tried my own and after login had a similar address (mine wasn't "462" though). Hmm ... as far as I know nothing special on this end. Any Opera settings you've changed from the defaults?

I installed Opera 12.0 on Saturday, then tried to access Yahoo Mail. When I couldn't, I ascribed the problem to Yahoo and went on to other tasks. Was away from computer Sunday, but on Monday (yesterday), I tried Yahoo again and came up empty. I then tried it with Firefox and it worked fine. So my conclusion is that there is something in my 12.0 configuration that wasn't in my 11.64 that is blanking out my Yahoo messages. I didn't make any changes after installing 12.0.

Although my Quick Preferences (on the Tools menu) shows JavaScript enabled, I get an error message in Yahoo when I try to access my "Mail Options" menu that says: "At this time, Mail Options is not supported by browsers that have javascript disabled. We are actively looking into this and hope to have it fixed as soon as possible." Why would Yahoo think Opera has javascript disabled when it tells me otherwise? I dunno if this is a clue as to what is happening to my messages, but it makes me wonder. And as I posted above, I can see my email if I just click on the "Printable View"

Shortly after writing the above, I tried to access my Verizon account, but received two error messages that 1) I needed to enable JavaScript and 2) I needed to disable my popup blocker. Unfortunately, I can do neither because my Tools/Preferences menu shows that the first is enabled and I have "open all popups" enabled on the second. So this browser version is sending out the wrong info to sites. They think I am blocking them when that is not my intention.

I've also noticed that, although this version shows that I have two extensions, Ghostery and Web of Trust enabled, neither of them appear and it is questionable whether they are working. They normally show a little icon up in the right corner, but both disappeared with the installation of 12.0.

Question: Does anyone know if I uninstall ver 12.0 with the intention of re-installing 11.64, which worked 100%, am I liable to lose my bookmarks, speed dial settings etc. I know they are saved and moved forward when you install an updated version, but are they in a saved file that doesn't get uninstalled so that they can be utilized if I go backward to an older version? I'd really like to bail out on version 12.0 until some of the bugs are worked out.

Addendum: To pcutt: try this, it worked for me for getting my YahooMail messages open. Disable JavaScript by going to:Tools-Preferences-Advanced-Content.Then uncheck the box that says, "Enable JavaScript". Close & re-start Opera then try to open your Yahoo messages. Mine popped right up. Unfortunately, it didn't solve the problems with several other sites that refuse to work because they say I need to ENABLE JavaScript irrespective of whether I have that box checked. Somehow they just don't think it enabled when it tells me that it is.

I also have/had the same problem with Yahoo mail described by pcutt, et al. In answer to another post whether reverting to previous version will lose settings: I returned to v. 11.64 without loss of settings. The only irritating thing now is that every time I restart Opera, I must answer a couple of pop-ups asking (1) whether I want to update to the the new version (NO!) and (2) telling me that the 11.64 version won't be able to use the Opera mail files properly (OK). That's worth getting by all the problems with Opera 12 not operating with Yahoo mail (and apparently some other sites) properly. I hope Opera will pay attention to these complaints and put in a fix. It seems to me it's a programming error of some kind. I also have the "running clock" cursor and tab activity going on. It makes me think there's some background activity going on, but according to sgunhouse that is not the case. I hope this gets cleared up, too.

I'll be waiting for a notice from Opera that these problems have been fixed before I dare try another "update" again. Sgunhouse has done a fantastic job of getting around some of this, but isn't there a real glitch happening here? Thanks.

Let me add my problem here, though I have a feeling there might not be any solution to it. In Chrome, my Yahoo! mail shows a quick reply field below the e-mail (just like Opera's built-in client has), but I can't get it to show in Opera, no matter how I try to mask/identify it as something else. Any ideas?

I also just downgraded to 11.62 from 12.00
because I could not get yahoo to display the content of a message.
I'm using the older version of Yahoo - not their new version.

Opera would let me log in, show the list of messages and even
show the header and footer - but ALL message content was invisible.

Sciencelover, as regards which version of Yahoo you use: How do you choose between versions, please?

If you're using Yahoo.com, after you login there's a link on the Options menu for "Mail Classic". I can't say that all foreign versions of Yahoo would be the same ...

Thanks, sgunhouse. I was asking sciencelover in case he was doing something other than the Classic vs Latest Version choice. It's probably right that's what he meant. As a matter of fact, my 'Options' menu doesn't show that choice. Can you explain how to change one's view (Classic or not) if the choice isn't showing, please?

Looks like adding "ymv=3" to the URL is what does it here. As in, http://mail.yahoo.com/welcome?ymv=3 should do it.

Not a valid link, hmm ... well, not sure then. sad

Well, here's the message I got when I clicked on the link (and when I copied/pasted it): Sorry, the page you requested was not found.
Please check the URL for proper spelling and capitalization.
I'm assuming your spelling and capitalization were correct, so... thanks for trying.

Hi All,

Here's an update on the problem I mentioned in my post above. I don't have the problem with Yahoo mail any more. I'm using the latest Opera, version 12.01 build 1532.

Thanks for all the help.

Wow, pcutt. That's good news. I'm wondering if I dare update to the latest version now. Do you suppose 12.01 is an update that solved the problem? Were you using 12.0 before?

I had the problem with 12.0 and now 12.01 seems to have solved it. My experience with updating and regressing is that the user info such as bookmarks are saved, so if you try to update and it doesn't solve the problem you can revert back to your original version without losing data. Hope this helps.

Well, updating to 12.01 put me back to square one plus a little! Now I'm getting a pop-up box that "access to this service is not permitted"! Good grief, Opera! Get it done! Do something that allows Yahoo mail to run properly! Now I've got to go back and reload an old version in order to keep my tabs intact. What a pain.

I'm glad it worked for you, pcutt, but I have no idea why it worked for you and not for me. Is there a way to choose a particular "build"?

Hello, I got similar errors. "Updating!!" with opera 12.01 give me the error "message-body in a yahoo-mail will not be shown".
But if I install opera 12.01 in a new directory opera 12.01 works fine mit yahoo-mail. But I dont want a new-install because I had recreate all the settings in opera.
Maybe I can help the opera-team with providing the setting-(File) of my 11.64-installation.

Very interesting, frank0007. Now I have another tactic to try if I ever get the urge to update to 12.01 again. For now I think I'll stick with 11.61 (which loaded when I tried to update to 11.64!). I wish Opera would get together with Yahoo to work this out! Thanks for your info.

Hey all. I haven't had the body problem, but the left sidebar, where it is supposed to show the various folders, is always blank in Opera, since about v11.0 for me. I've tried the earlier solutions, but no change. Anyone else have this issue or found a way around it?
