How to turn on Mail and Contacts in the panel

Hello.

I do not see the 'mail' and 'contacts' in my panel. When I go to Customize/Appearance/Panels mail and contacts are light grey so I can not choose them.

How do I fix this so I can turn mail and contacts back on?

Thank you.

Nancy

You need to add a mail account first. Maybe just subscribing to some feeds would help but i'm not sure.

Menu > Mail and Chat Accounts to add the mail account.

Hello LeoCG

Thank you for your thought. However, I am not new to Opera. I have several mail accounts that were working on my old computer. The same with the contacts. For some reason, when I went to the new computer with Windows 7, I can not get them to work, even thought I've transferred files and everything else is there on the panel (notes, bookmarks, etc). I can not even toggle the mail to on, it is grayed out in the appearance window. Oh, also I forgot to mention in my original post that I see the incoming mail pop-up in the lower right of my screen. This has me thinking that the mail was set up properly, I just cannot see it (or the contacts). Maybe?

Any thoughts on this?

thanks.

Nancy

Go to Mail and Chat accounts and see if any are listed. If not, then you did something wrong copying the files.

If you don't see your accounts listed, check the mail directory on Help > About Opera and see if you copied the files to that folder.

I didn't think of going to 'mail and chat' accounts. Good idea. Unfortunately, they are also grayed out so I can't check that way either. Any other thoughts? Or maybe I should delete all of Opera and start over? It was very confusing transferring files because Windows files are not exactly the same as Windows XP.

What I really need is someone to tell me which Opera/XP files go where in Opera/Win7. Previously when I switched from an XP to an XP someone was nice enough to give me a list of files to transfer line by line. Can anyone help me with this XP-Win7 transfer in a similar way?

I hope?

Thank you all.

Hello again.

I have deleted Opera 12 and reinstalled Opera 11.64.

I have followed paths and moved files for the following using instructions: Preferences, Bookmarks, Cache, Help Documents (opcache), Mail directory, Plug-In path (only plugins), and User CSS Directory.

I could not find a file called "autopera.win" to move to Saved Sessions. Does this matter?
* * * * * * *
I did not know what to move for Opera Directory, so I did not do that one. I have two choices in my old HD:
C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\Opera\Opera <<< here I see ONLY a 'mail' folder and nothing else

OR

C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\Opera\Opera <<< here there are lots of folders and files. Some of the files here were moved individually, such as Operaprefs.ini, bookmarks.adr, contacts.adr, and notes.adr.
* * * * * * *
I am still unable to see mail and contacts. I can not add them to the panel as they are still grayed out in the Appearance/Panel and in Tools/Mail and Chat accounts. Same error message keeps popping up:

"Failed to open the following file: C:\documents and settings\Nancy\application data\Opera\Opera\mail\omailbase.dat"

Any suggestions?

Thanks again.
Nancy

Go to opera:config and look for "Show E-mail Client" and see if it's checked.

See if there is one called autosave.win. But you really don't need to copy that file

Getting there.

I did have autosave.win.....moved that. It was nice to have the tabs back that I was working on when the old computer CPU died.

Where do I find Opera:config? The link in your post doesn't work.

What happens when you click on the link?

You can just type opera:config on the address bar.

When I click on the link, this is what I get:

The webpage cannot be displayed
Most likely cause:
•Some content or files on this webpage require a program that you don't have installed.
What you can try:
Search online for a program you can use to view this web content.
Retype the address.
Go back to the previous page

Thank you for all of your help. I think all is solved except that some of my mail did not come back, particularly some of the older mail that I had saved, and SOME of the labels are missing.

You're not using Opera?

Obviously opera:config only works in Opera.
