Better search engines management
I'd like to see:- Add separator button (so you can separate search engines in groups)
- Move search engines up or down in dropdown menu
In the end it should look similar to this (i've recreated the buttons using image editor):

Now it appears that you can do this already by "hacking" search.ini file, but i'd prefer these options in Opera 9 itself.
Far more elegant, fast and user friendly

What do you think?

I requested this function many times, this is very important feature.

That's no indication at all. The spell-check and add block topics spent ages in this part of the forum until suddenly, without any warning, they were introduced in a snapshot.

Or do we have to develop own tool to handle this?

Also I would like to see "rebuild existing engines" feature to update order of them and to re-receive icons.
Does anybody care?
I'd love to see a "restore defaults" button also...

Yeah, the first time I used Opera I tried to drag and drop a search engine entry in the searches manager but obtained no success. Funny, isn't?I have a hard time even calling them "features"; they are so simple and intuitive you'd think they'd be options from the start.

Well its open source right? Someone freaking develop it! No I cant I dont know code. But YOU can. So ready....Go!
yea +1
Seems like an obvious need at the very least to arrange them.
Um you can alphabetize in edit but it doesnt stay alpha when you go back to your page...

More than 4 YEARS ago for something I believe should really be in there!
Also getting more pressing with every more search engines and other options creping up to sort out.
Someone seems to have come up with a solution already.

Maybe it will work for you :-D
OK, it's only been 5 years after all ;-)
Just caught myself revving up the ramble machine; shutting it down and location more appropriate location...
somewhere the desktop team resides....

not commenting does not equal not reading. opera staff regularly read through the wish list and then discuss proposed features internally.

Ha, there's little evidence of that.

you can use SearchEdit from Alexs, this can get most of you satisfied
But if you want some more grouping and favicons function like this:

you can edit search.ini, skin.zip and menu.ini to get it works:
search.ini
- use opera search edit to manage your search order and separators
- define a search type for each items in the detail editor (Ctrl+E or the search icon)
any # will be fine, I use 2000, 2001, 2002, etc, this is how your menu.ini link to the search engines
skin.zip
- create a folder "favicon" and put all your favicons in it
- skin.ini under [images] add these items
"google" = any text you define of the favicon
"=favicon/google.png" = the path of the favicon in skin.zip
google =favicon/google.png googletranslate =favicon/googletranslate.png hashdb =favicon/hashdb.png howjsay =favicon/howjsay.png imdb =favicon/imdb.png
menu.ini (if you don't understand, see menu example)
- under [Hotclick Popup Menu] replace the first two item (or you could keep it) to "Include, Search Menu"
- create [Search Menu] and add items you like
-
single item
"Wikipedia" = Any text you want to show up on your menu
"2042" = the search type you define in search.ini
"wiki" = the favicons in your skin.zip
Item, Wikipedia=Hotclick search, 2042,,, "wiki" Item, 維基百科=Hotclick search, 2041,,, "wiki" Item, ウィキペディア=Hotclick search, 2043,,, "wiki"
-
submenu
"Resoure" = text
"Download menu" = the submenu you created
"verycd" = faviconsSubmenu, Resource,Download menu=show popup menu,,,,"verycd" Submenu, Google,Search Engine menu=show popup menu,,,,"google" Submenu, Database,Database menu=show popup menu,,,,"bangumi" Submenu, Encyclopedia,Encyclopedia menu=show popup menu,,,,"wiki"
-
separators

It is very complicated and inconvenience, and you will have to manually edit the three pieces for every new added search engine to get it work. And they are NOT auto-updated. But I think its worth the hell lots of work, since I can very easily search through 50+ of search engines. I hope I can see it as an opera built-in function in the near future, even extension will be great.
If you just want to sorted, use Sort Search Engines extension. But if you want it on the menu to be grouped, use SearchEdit.
