Opera 12 Seems to Ignore Pagebar Button Min/Max Width in Skin.ini

I am back to 11.64 cause this issue is a deal breaker for me. I am using Windows 7 64bit, Skin is Z1-Glass that I have tweaked a small bit to my liking.

This is what it looks like in 11.64:

This is in 12.0:

Clean install of Opera 12 USB version from opera-usb.com, 11.64 is from there as well. I have made the same changes to make the pagebar look the same in 12 as it is in 11.64. It appears that 12 is ignoring the pagebar button sizing parameters in [Options} section of skin.ini. I have tried updating the Z1-Glass skin to the new version and same thing, have even tried other skins. When testing this skin on 12 I copied the same skin zip file over to 12 that is working fine in 11.64.

I can confirm the issue. I don't know of any fix.

As are off-topic comments in the Desktop Team Blog. My comments were also ignored here and here when they were not off-topic.

At the 12.02 RC stage they only wish to know about regressions since 12.01 because 12.02 final will be released very soon and no more changes will be made unless something major is reported. This is not a major issue, let alone a critical issue or blocker that would set back the release of 12.02.

I am guessing that this is an intentional change, but there's no way to know since all of our comments so far have been ignored.

Yeah I just would like some kind of reply and have even asked in one of the blog posts if it is intentional or a bug so I can move on and stop asking about this.

Seems some of us users or some questions just arent worth a response apparently.

When testing this with the RC1 I even got the newest version of hte skin as it was massively out of date too and had seen he had updated it a fair bit. So I had hope then i tried it and nothing.

Maybe its a new parameter in the skin.ini or something and if so it would be nice to have that be known.

Indeed. I would like to hear if its intentional or a bug.

Im still using 11.64 because of this. Tabs at default size just take up too much room when its not needed if the title is small.

i moved to 12.02 but i regret it a bit (many small issues like this one). for me tabs are too small. for example: page gives its name first, and it doesn't have to be long to make the part i want to know hidden. have to hover cursor over it to see which is which... so i really hope it's a bug.

Problem still exists in Opera 12.10.

Let's see if there is any response to this blog post.

It is possible to edit skin.ini to make all tabs as small or as big as you like, but you can no longer have small tabs for short titles and long tabs for long titles. They are all the same width.

As I stated before, it did work for me in 12.01 build 1532, changing the new Standard skin by putting the parameters as I usually did with Windows Classic skin before - min and max equal like:

Pagebar max button width = 72
Pagebar min button width = 72

Maybe that is why it worked for me, fixed length instead of variable?

Well, that's not working is it? There is still no difference between maximum and minimum tab width. The whole point of variable width is that no space is wasted when the title is short, but where it is long, as much as possible is shown in the specified maximum tab width. Like this:

Well, since repeated efforts to find out brought no response, I gave up on testing Opera Next.

I will continue to use Opera 11.64 until I see some change of attitude from the developers. I have had it with fixing broken behaviours or broken skins on every upgrade.

It looks like a bug. If you add the lines to skin.ini:

[Options]
Pagebar max button width = 25
Pagebar min button width = 25

I like fixed tab widths in my windows and all other browser task buttons. It is consistent, and takes very little space. I just need the favicon/icon as a cue to what is behind the tab, or hover mouse over it to get details.

It doesn't load until you go into the theme appearance (Shift+F12), then toggle to another theme and back. As a temporary workaround, I do this everytime I launch Opera (12.10) now. Seems the bigger bug is Opera needs to reload custom skin.ini every time the preferences are saved, otherwise it goes to default.
