Showing links from Yahoo! groups
I normally avoid showing any HTML element in email, for security reasons. This means that by default I have HTML visualisation turned off and if I need to view something not showing up in the plain text version I rather look at the message source.This is what I do in other clients. With operamail I do not find any "show HTML". Furthermore, when I get messages from Yahoo! groups containing a link to attachments on the server, those links do not show up in the message source either. There is no "allow remote blocked images". Nothing at all. I'm puzzled. How to get the missing elements?

What do you mean by "operamail"? Do you mean Opera's built-in mail client (M2), or operamail.com (fastmail) or My Opera Mail (mail.opera.com)?
I assume the first since this forum is for Opera's built-in mail client. However, since you said you turn off HTML viewing by default, you'd know about checking prefer plain text and how you can uncheck it to toggle the view when you want.
I mean M2, of course. I do not use this client, normally, but I am on leave for a couple of months with a small netbook, on which I do not have my commercial client (The Bat) so I am using M2 just during this period. In The Bat I use plain text view, but I know how to switch to HTML if necessary - almost never the case, I look at the source code.
In the link you gave I found View Mode (opera:config#Mail%20View%20Mode) but the setting corresponds to a number. What that stands for?

O.K. Then my previous post should answer your question. You check "prefer plain text" to view messages in plain text by default. Then, when you want to view a message as HTML so you can click HTML links, you temporarily uncheck "prefer plain text". No need to view the source of the message. But, if you want to view the source of the message, you just right-click on the message and choose "view all headers and message" to view the source.
Note though that in plain text mode, Opera makes links clickable. So, you shouldn't have a problem with just using "prefer plain text" if that's what you want to do.

This isn't necessary in Opera. Opera doesn't load javascript or plug-ins in messages. And, it doesn't load remote content by default. Even loading a message with a virus embedded in it isn't harmful unless you click on the attachment and choose "open" or save it to your hard drive and open it.
