Looking for a new browser: Opera ?? [Wishes]

Hi !

I am using Firefox, because it has had a really good infrastructure [IS].
Ther a are a lot of extensions, I NEED in internet times.
This IS is broken, since they update each week ..... Like all others
on this earth, quality control is too expensive and updates nerves
to often [yeah:Not only firefox ! Everything even my mobil, give
you updates each day .... !!!!!!!].
I need some of the plugins very day and the plug-in developers
cannot follow the update cycle ...

So, I am looking for something better. The biggest BAD for
Firefox - and all other browsers too - is, that they are
browsers, while modern internet times require you to have
something which organizes your work, call it a "Internet
Manager".

Thre reason, why I have Opera installed all the time is, that
it is the browser, which gets a 4+ [schoolnotes] in favorite
management, while other stay at 5 to 6 [Internet Explorer] :-(

Now, I am trying to make some work with Firefox, where my
plug-ins are kept and only for this. The I use Iron [a non-
tracking open Chrome variant] for other things and I'll migrate
to Opera for my most usual work.

I like the favorite management, because I can find my
links, anyway, where they are located [in which folder].
This is really great and it looks like the only browser
on the web, which helps me in organizing the favorites.
But this is not complete [so the 4+ note]. What I am
missing is, that there have to be more properties for the
links, like "date created" and "date last visited". This would
make Opera favorite management a 3+. In contrast to
Firefox, Opera has no tagging of your links, which would
give you more options to organized them, beneath the
pyhsical location [the favorirtes folder]. This would make
Opera a 2 in favorite management. The other things,
so far I've used them, looks really ok.

To make Opera a complete "Internet Manager", more things
should be there. For example, I want to be notified, that
I have to check/visit a link again, like an event in my calendar.
This is not like a rss-feed! A checker, checking if links works
should be applied to validate links and give you a list, what was
not working at the checkpoint [But do not remove them!].
This could imply to make something work [like a "user-service"]
while the browser is not running.

For example, I use "RSS Bandit", a RSS feed reader, which
collects my interest, while I do other things. And the feed
are avyilaible offline. Fine to be organized, if the internet
is down. So I use Outlook and can read, write mails, think
about it and sent something [while the message is pyhsically
sent, if the net is back to online state]. Working 100%
with internet is complicated.

Just my two cents and good wishes for Opera.

Best regards,
++mabra

I could not understand from your long, rambling post, exactly what your feature request is. I think some of it at least is already there, e.g. in the Bookmark Properties dialogue and bookmark panel tooltips.

Hi !

I've not provided a short list, but it is to understand.

I have to continue. I upgraded now from Opera [11.xx] to 12.00
I tried to add a favorite down into my folder structure. It is
not possible. Only the top folders are shown. Very bad.
While adding, the folder tree is not shown.
I added the favorite anyway. Then I tried to find it.
There seems to be a - more or less - hidden folder.
In the search, the favorite was to find and in the folder
tree on the left, but not a folder !!!! I searched other,
older favorites and these are to find and shown with
the folders, they reside in. Not so the new one. There
is really something strange. I added it to the "speed dial
list", but was not able toi find this to change it.
Finally, the bad is, I stay at firefox :-(

All browsers are monsters, more or less.

If you use the bookmarks panel instead of the star, you can drag the tab into whichever folder you want.

Hi !

Thank you very much.

Your recommendation would always be my favorite way to add a new one.
But: Do you remember, how that dialog looks?? This is an always expanded
tree !! In my case, it is that huge, that it becomes impossible to use. This
is exactly my problem with Internet Explorer [same thing]. If Opera
would offer an collapsible tree, this would make all things absolutely
perfect.

Thanks,
++mabra

It does, so then its absolutely perfect. The tree is shown however you left it.

There are also shortcuts (shift left/right) and mouseflips (flipback flipforward) to expand/collapse the bookmarks panel tree, or just click on a folder or subfolder to collapse/expand it.

Hi,

and thanks, first !

I was not really accurate with my last answer, because I am at work with Opera 11.xx
I'll see at home, the 12.xx version, if there really is an expandable/collapsible tree.
Here, on 11.xx, it is not [it is always expanded].

Thanks,
++mabra

All recent versions have the same collapsible tree. Maybe you have enabled split view or single folder view.

@LinuxMint7: no, not really ... and imo doesn't really belong to the wishlist either as it is mostly an investigation in the style of "does feature xyz work?" ... also from the writing I'd guess that the discussion should take place in a language-specific forum.
