How do I prevent mail collecting on loading Opera?
Opera insists on collecting mail as it loads. I can find no way to prevent this. I would prefer to collect mail manually at a moment of my choosing rather than always do this when Opera first fires up. Surely there is some setting somewhere I can use for this? On the "incoming" tab in the account's properties, you can uncheck "check every ..." so that Opera doesn't check automatically.
Or, in accounts.ini in the mail folder while Opera is closed, you can set the initial poll delay. I don't know if setting it to 0 will stop Opera from checking at startup and only initialize "check every ... " once you check manually for the first time. So, you'll probably have to set it to a really high value so that it takes a long time before Opera checks automatically (or at least longer than the "check every ... " (poll interval) value if you have that enabled).
Note though that if you use IMAP and the server supports IDLE, you'll want to disable idle support for the account in accounts.ini too.

Many thanks. I had found this check box and unchecked it. It has stopped Opera collecting unless I do a manual request. I'm not sure if it works on start-up though because I had already collected mail in my mail client. I use The Bat on my desktop and prefer to keep mail in one place there, but on my notebook I use Opera for mail as well as browsing. Opera is by far the best browser around. If only more sites and developers would support it because Internet Explorer gets worse and worse like Windows itself.
