Opera 12 flash problems - Partial Solution

Many people has said they have problems with videos, gifs, ads, etc, and I find a solution (parial - You maybe cannot play some html 5 content and some ads will not visible).

Steps:
1. type this in the address field:
opera:plugins

2. Search for the plugin "Shockwave flash".
3. Disable it, and refresh opera.

Result: You'll can play most of the videos from youtube and web players but not web gifs, ads, embedded videos and HTML5 content, so that's a provisional solution - Hope that flash problems will be fixed ;(

Thank's to eMJay8086

EDIT: If the probles are fixed in near future, you'll have to enable "Shockwave flash" plugin.

Everything was working for me till this afternoon. I have installed nothing new or upgraded any software (all software updates are set to manual, I do not do auto updates). I watched a couple of videos on Youtube and then all of a sudden no sound! shut down Opera and restated the same, NO SOUND! ARGGH! So I go to Chrome (Yuck!) and even use FF (yuck!) and both are suffering from the same problem. Weird!!

So I uninstall Flash, codecs (64&32) still no sound. Install Opera Next as vanilla install and still no sound. Now while this is going on I have media centre on and playing along quite nicely. So I sit and cogitated for a few minutes, running a few possible resolutions through my now muddled mind. Then it came to me, try turning the sound frequency down. SO I move it from 24bit 192000 to 24 bit 48000. Yes you guessed it, now I have sound in Youtube videos.

This is very strange, as I said I had updated nothing, had been watching videos with sound. The next moment I have no sound in Opera/Youtube. So this is a quick fix and to be honest it is not so bad on the sound reproduction and I would expect most people would not be able to notice the difference.

I hope that helps someone.

Ok,
Here is a solution (at least for Windows 7) that, as always, will work for some people and for others won´t: match the version (32 or 64 bits) of Windows and Opera. I meant, install Opera 32 for Windows 32, and Opera 64 for Windows 64.
From reading the posts in more than one thread describing the nighmare of switching to Opera 12, I have found that most people with problems (at least in windows 7) have installed 32 bits Opera on Windows x64.
This happens, in part, because the download site for Opera offers by default the 32 bit version of Opera 12 is the current version of Opera being used to download the new one is 32 bits (all 11.x are 32). By selecting “more options” is possible to download the 64 bits version, instead.
In my case, after I installed the 64 bit version of Opera in Windows 7 x64, all my problems with flash hanging Opera or temporary freezes, vanished. And let me tell you, this is really the fastest version of opera I have used to date (12.00 64 bist, on windows 7 x64).
I have installed the 64 bits version of Opera over an old 11.xx 32 bits version and all seems to work fine. Even java and flash plugins seems to work without having to install specially designed 64 versions of them.
I hope this help at least some of you solve the problems.
I also suggest that you try showing thumbnails in Opera tabs (easily achieve by increasing the tab heights with the mouse, dragging their bottom). This is the main reason I still prefer Opera over Firefox or Chrome, they do not have this feature. It may takes a while to get accustomed to this new bigger tabs, but it worth it. No more reading tabs names.
Best regards to all,
E.

*LoL* ..I can't quite believe it! This is actually ridiculous! Immediately after reading the above, I started thinking it over. Is it worth a shot, or isn't it? Since my Op12 is still overwhelming me with problems and I'm indeed using the 32bit version on a 64bit-machine (never tried the latter out, until now..), well, why would it be otherwise? Right before installing it, a couple of weeks ago, ALL I could learn from others and from the web was: No problem, take the 32-bit version. It'll make no trouble and the 64-bit thing would just blow it all up; this is only for people with extraordinary requirements as regards memory. There are no other benefits, blah blah blah...

I bought it! I didn't know any better. I'm also running quite a few other 32-bit applications on this computer and, true, while some tend to be a tad slower than normal, there are no problems whatsoever with most of them. I now know, however, this was a mistake. A big mistake! Look, I've just installed Opera 64-bit; in fact, "right next" to my 32-bit installation, which I needed to keep, because of my settings, bookmarks, extensions and all. Luckily all went without a hitch. Right now I even have them running "in tandem", both at the same time that is. The 64-bit version, of course, looks pretty much the same. It feels pretty much the same. Nevertheless, there's one difference and that is so striking I realized it instantly: THERE ARE NO PROBLEMS ANY MORE!! yikes jester yes

All the troubles I experience with the 32-bit are gone! And I didn't even have to disable any plugins! Finally I can smoothly scroll again on any site, however Flash-crammed or whatever there is and, up to now, I haven't noticed a single display bug/error! Oh, and there's one more difference: speed! Opera is faster now on this system but just how much, it's hardly recognizable! bigsmile

Yes, I'm fairly happy now, notwithstanding the prospect of my having yet to re-set all my wont settings in the new installation, having to transfer my bookmarks, and having to re-install my extensions (especially my loved Tab Vault, I *hope* there's no problem and I wonder whether or how it'll be possible to somehow get all the URLs I've saved there "over", since I've, like, 100 saved links in the vault! And I really *need* them! Probably, though, I'll have to copy these all manually cry )

Okay first of all: One thousand whopping thanks to emilioheredia! You did no less than saving Opera for me! I've seriously been on the verge of leaving in the general direction of FF/Chrome or whatever. The second goes out to all others who are using (at least) Windows 7 with 64-bit space: Do not install Opera 12 32-bit! Take the respective 64-bit version instead, you won't regret it. And if you already have a working 32-bit installation, and you also experience all those weird errors and bugs (mostly Flash-related) -- do as I did. Change to 64-bit, it's never too late. My final one is addressed to the people of Opera themselves: If you care about your customers, do note this somewhere, at least somewhere! I am just a little bit disappointed, that for some reason which I cannot (don't have to?) understand, this hasn't been made clear all along. And that, what seems to be another user.., had to help us (?) out of this! There could at least have been some kind of suggestion, or advice: On 64-bit operating systems, you may like to prefer/try out our new 64-bit version...

But as to this effect there was nothing! And it catched me, as well as, obviously, many others, totally flat-footed. Why, I guess we'll never know. confused Well, at least everything's well now...

Regards

Here is I got Opera 12 run on Windows7 64 bits with Flash 11.4xx.xxx:
* Uninstall FlashPlayer (control panel->Uninstall a program->whichever shockwave flash version in the list)
* Go to the address opera:plugins in Opera and disable all the flash plugins
* Reboot computer
* Run Internet Explorer 64 bits and go to http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ to install flash player (this did not enable flash in Opera but I wanted to make sure I will have 64 bits of FP)
* Start Opera and install non-IE version of the flash player with Opera from the same address
* Start Opera and check opera:plugins page to make sure
C:\Windows\system32\Macromed\Flash\NPSWF64_11_4_402_265.dll is the only available Flash Player plugin.
* Youtube stopped running with Flash Player (switched to HTML5 which I don't care at the moment)

You don't have to do that. Just disable older versions of flash in opera:plugins and keep the last version. It will fix the problem.
