Fetches No New Mails, Old Ones Work

Opera gets stuck on fetching new mails for a good minute or so, then reports there are no new mails available. No other error message. Worked fine a few days ago, didn't change anything.

- set up a dupe account, downloaded everything aside from ~the 12 latest mails
- not using any scripts or extensions relating to emails
- cleared cache, restarted Opera and Windows
- can access everything normally on my provider's site
- didn't get any letter from my provider that something changed
- cleaned the emails stored on Opera-side and on that of my provider
- sent a mail to myself, same problem
- emails in questions mostly just continuations of discussions, no attachments. Nothing Opera hasn't handled before.

Running latest Opera on W7x64, email host is GMX.
Any chance to pinpoint whether Opera, GMX or something else is the problem? Any protocols I could enable/read for clues?

POP or IMAP?

What version of Opera?

What Windows version?

Set up a standlone installation to a folder on your desktop. Setup the account in it and see if it works. If this is a POP account, do not uncheck "leave messages on server".

You can see what the log says.

If this is with POP, there's a pop3/uid file in the mail folder for the account (see accounts.ini for the number for the account to see which uid file is for the account). If you close down Opera and delete this file, Opera should fetch all messages that are on the server. Then, you'll have to delete any old, already-fetched copies of those new messages. Then, you should be good to go *if* that file is the problem.

When some people have this problem, they just download the Opera installer, launch it, click "options" to make sure the install path is the same so they get "accept and upgrade" and install. That seems to fix it for some reason.

If this is with IMAP, you should just be able to delete the IMAP account and add it back in. Or, close down Opera and delete the mail folder and then start Opera and add the IMAP account back in.

All depends on your situation.

If all else fails, you can do <http://my.opera.com/operawiki/forums/topic.dml?id=1162442>.

Of course, check the time, date and time zone on your computer and check all your security software.

Also, in the account's preferences, make sure you don't have "include this account when checking manually" unchecked and "check every" unhcecked. You might want to retype your username and password and such even if you tried a dupe account.

Also, make sure the ports are correct. You could have had them set incorrectly where they still worked but GMX changed something.

Try in Thunderbird or something too.

Was about to lose hope, but purging the mail folder finally solved it. Thanks for everything!
