Themes and Skins in O12

Themes and Skins in O12

I have noticed that the new O12 "themes" are more like backgrounds and not wholesale changes to the appearance of Opera as were the old skins. But the old style skins are still compatible with O12. Is the combining of the new style themes and the old style skins possible?

i dont think so

My "old" Ibis Inspire works fine under Opera 12.

Great. Thanks. That solves that issue. Now if I could just figure out which skin parameters I need to edit to shorten the tabs so they don't stick up like sore thumbs....

I think you will have to edit the skin's images that are used for the tabs so that they are the same height, but have a few transparent pixels at the top.

You mean edit the FavIcons? Or are you meaning a setting that controls the size of the FavIcons?

No. I mean the images inside the skin that are used to create the tabs. Opera Skinning

In the standard skin.ini the button skin gives the images as
[Pagebar Button Skin]
Tile Center = pagebar/top/tab.png

So you would need to edit the image "tab.png" and the other images in that folder after extracting the skin archive contents, then zip it back up again. Your skin may have a different folder structure.

ok, I'll check out that link. The problem I'm having with the official docent action (besides the fact that it doesn't seem to be very detailed) is that it hasn't been updated since about version 9 or 10 and the images don't correspond to the current interface. Others may be able to figure it out but I ain't that smart!!

I've just installed Opera 64 and wanted to use the same skins as the 32 bit (they were installed in v10).

The solution is simple - copy them from c:/User_name/AppData/Roaming/Opera/skin to /Opera x64.

Actually, if you downloaded the skins to another folder, just copy into either of the above folders and you can access the skin via the appearance option.

BTW: Does anyone know where all the skins went? There's only a few themes and none I really like.

Same place they always were, Opera skins Any new skins will be put in the new themes page though.

I have recently updated all three of my skins to address the issue with the selected text highlighting. The green highlights are now the same as the yellow ones, without the surrounding box, which can obscure adjacent characters.
