Tags for bookmarks....been asking for years

I used to use Opera since the beginning. Now, I need to tag my bookmarks for research. It's not even possible (and no, I can't use the description, because I need to use a description for an actual description). Opera - you just came out with a new version. You focus on all these things - speed, themes, etc - but not simple tags? Is it so difficult to understand that some people need tags for their bookmarks? I really don't understand. I guess getting people to switch from browsers that have tags, and depend on them, and the multiple threads and requests over the years and people trying workarounds all don't matter to Opera. I was hoping that maybe it had been implemented but nope! So back to Firefox for me, sadly. Please allow us to use real bookmark tags at some point....

Do you want to use tags for your bookmarks?

It seems that 24% of users think its a waste of time adding this. (See the linked thread)

I agree with Ryan the description field already allows you to add key words to bookmarks, which will serve as tags when searching in the bookmarks panel. Nicknames can also be used.

If you look right below the post you linked to, you will see my response which also links to a more in-depth explanation of why Opera bookmarks need a tagging feature, and why the description field is only a (poor) workaround for the lack of tags: http://my.opera.com/community/forums/topic.dml?id=245951&t=1332380168&page=1#comment11225622

Please read the post in its entirety.

I've said it before: workaround != solution to an underlying issue

Because a picture is worth a thousand words, rather than making the same in-depth explanation over and over, I'll let some images do the talking for me. Please note this only demonstrates the bookmark tags under Firefox. What is not shown in the screenshots are the "keyword" and "description" fields. They are found within Firefox's bookmarks; however, they are not shown in these screenshots since that is not the purpose of this demonstration. So before you say "Firefox has no keyword or description field...," now you know that it does.

Can Opera's description field do this?

Can Opera's description field do this?

Can Opera's description field do this? (Notice the user can browse by tags. He is not limited to logically sorting bookmarks by folder, since he can also use tags for smart sorting and browsing.)

Can Opera's description field be used to create smart folders categorized by tags? (Do not confuse smart folders with traditional bookmark folders.)

To those who say we can use the "description field" to dump our "tags" in Opera, please answer the above questions and the related screenshots. If the answer is "no", then please do not continue to make the claim that a bookmark's description field under Opera is good enough for "tags". If the answer is something along the lines of "This is Opera, not Firefox, we don't need tags...", well fine, that's not the point anyways, but once again you must cease making the false claim that a bookmark's description field under Opera is good enough for "tags".

Thank you.
