All Messages and Contacts Suddenly Disappeared
I've been using the mail client in Opera for a few months now, since migrating from a Thunderbird client (Eudora OSE), which by the way was not as easy as it should be (in particular I had to do a lot of manual work to get the address book into a file that Opera would import as Contacts). Anyway I've been learning the rather unconventional UI and for the most part liking it.However a sudden serious error occurred today. While I was doing some e-mail, All messages and contacts disappeared from all views! I opened contacts.adr and see they are still there. And it looks like the messages are still in their data files. But the UI won't display any of them. But new e-mails are received and displayed properly.
Please help. How do I restore everything? I have many messages I don't want to lose. And what in the world caused this? Thank you.
Using Win 7 x64 platform, but About Opera says:
Version 12.00
Build 1467
Platform Win32
System Windows 7
XHTML+Voice
Plug-in not loaded
Browser identification
Opera/9.80 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; U; en) Presto/2.10.289 Version/12.00
If you goto "Menu -> settings -> import and export -> export Opera contacts", do they appear in the exported file? If so, close down Opera and delete contacts.adr in the preferences directory. Then, start Opera and import from your exported file. If the exported file doesn't contain your contacts, close down Opera and move contacts.adr to your desktop. Then, start Opera and import from that contacts.adr.
That will get you your contacts back in the contacts panel. But, if the messages are not shown in those views, then it's probably database or indexer corruption. index.ini might be messed up too.
If all else fails, <http://my.opera.com/operawiki/forums/topic.dml?id=1162442> will fix it. But, if you use IMAP instead of POP (you didn't say), you can usually just delete the IMAP account and add it back in or delete the mail folder and then add the IMAP account back in.
There are a bunch of things in <http://my.opera.com/operawiki/forums/topic.dml?id=1133152> that you can try.
