Can't bookmark the main page of a website after bookmarking a sub-page

I bookmarked a sub-page of a certain website. Then I went to the website's main page and tried to bookmark it as well, but I got the "page already bookmarked" window. I was able to bookmark another sub-page if I wanted, though. I removed the sub-page from bookmarks, bookmarked the main page and then bookmarked the sub-page again without any problems. Is it normal (not being able to bookmark the main page, I mean) or is it some kind of a bug? It's not a huge problem, but it doesn't seem to make any sense.

Its a bug — it has been around for a year or more. Drag and drop the link or tab to your Bookmarks panel instead.

Will it be ever fixed? It's very serious problem (at least for heavy bookmarks user like me) and seems it's not something hard to fix.

That's impossible for anyone to know without looking at the code. Fixing one thing often breaks something else, so any change needs testing.

It may seem like a serious problem for you because you always use the Add Bookmarks dialogue. I usually use the Bookmarks panel, so it hardly affects me. How do you respond if there are delays on your regular route to work? Do you always take the same route regardless, or do you look for another route?

This has already been over a year — it might be another year yet before it gets fixed. Nagging for it to be fixed won't make the slightest difference — finding a workaround will solve the problem. After a month of using the bookmarks panel you may find it easier to use and more flexible than the dialogue.

Oh, it shouldn't be too long - the developers tell me they already have a fix for it. Hasn't made it into the 12.02 previews unfortunately, but it should be in 12.50 whenever that's released (knowing them, probably before Christmas).

Yes, it's not possible to know, but it is always possible to make a guess, this is why i use word "seems". smile

Draging to panel is workaround to force adding bookmark, but that's only solve half of the problem. I can't accurately tell if page is already bookmarked or not. Sometimes Opera just lies to me and cause me to make mistake, do you have workaround for that?

Good to hear that.

Organise your bookmarks in folders, then you can see at a glance if you have added it before. Its no big issue if you add it twice (some users were complaining because they were prevented from doing so via the dialogue when the check for duplicates was added), but you can use AM Deadlink to remove duplicates. Its not a bad idea to strip out dead bookmarks once a month or so if you're an avid collector of bookmarks. There is also quick find in the bookmarks panel.
