12.50 / 1538 incorrect mark up placement in vbulletin text box

When I select text in a vbulletin text box and apply markup such as italics, bold or underline, the corresponding tags are not properly placed outside the boundaries of the selected text. Often they are off by one character, but they have been off by many.

I've experienced this in vbulletin 3.7 at www.christianforums.com. At the same site I'd never had this problem before. Tested in a "Quick Reply" text box.

Also, this is not peculiar to 12.5, but I'm wondering why Opera does not offer the full WYSIWYG vbulletin editor, as does other browsers.

Browser keeps reverting to showing no images. Need to toggle Show Images setting to jog it back.

I'm seeing incorrect multiline text box editing in several venues, not just vbulletin. Behavior across different text boxes is not uniform.

Several American Thinker pages would not load this morning, even after a restart, whereas they loaded instantly in FF. An example:

1538 freezes upon opening, and takes a long time to recover.

Also, I installed 1538 on a friend's XP machine. I had thought much of O12's instability problems had their root in its interaction with Win7, but 1538 on her machine is not doing well - worse than 12.01 had done.

I can confirm this in the current 12.50 build 1546. The same thing happens here in this forum. I'm sure this is due to some \r\n vs. \n conflict. The inserted markup is shifted one character for each newline above the position. See my duplicate (sorry for that) post:

No problem, that is a later build than I am working with. Thanks.

As of now, it can be fixed in JavaScript:

But it makes more sense for Opera to fix it on their side. This is only a temporary solution I'm using...
