secure site appears without lock

I have had this problem for a while now and no one could help me, but now I have finally found the cause.

When I go to secure sites (banks or email) they cannot connect securely in Opera, but it works fine in Firefox.

I finally found out what causes it, when my computer time a few hours behind (usually ten), it will not show the little colored lock. However if I adjust the time and restart Opera, it works fine. Even if I change the time again to where I began it works fine (I didn't try restarting it after time change) so it is probably something that opera does during starting up that creates the problem.

Can you please fix it?

restarting after time change breaks the secure sites again. And I work in Windows XP service pack 3

I'm having the same problem but it has nothing to do with the time. My clock is correct. Opera 12.0 works correctly as does 12.5 so this is a problem only with 12.01. I'm also running XP.

Clearing my cache seemed to help. Most sites are working now except Google+

I have
Version
12.00
Build
1467
Platform
Win32
System
Windows XP
XHTML+Voice
Plug-in not loaded

My cache is cleared when I shut down opera, which I do every evening, but when I start up in the morning without adjusting the time before, locks don't show up and the site is unsafe

Hmm, you're running 12.00. That's weird because 12.00 worked fine for me. It's 12.01 that I was having trouble with.

I have no idea. Why would your time be wrong anyway?

the battery in my computer died, so I don't have the right time when I shut it down and start it up the next day. 12.01 still gives the same problem. I think I'll report it as a bug

I'd be slightly hesitant to report this as a bug in Opera, As Opera is simply doing it's job.

If your (cmos) battery has died in your laptop, Thus making your laptop clock reset, It
can give Opera the appearance that the sites certificates are out of date, Or in this case,
From the future. Opera probably sees the discrepancy and assumes the site as unsecure.

Get your battery replaced, It won't cost much.

laptop?
anyway it doesn't reset, it is off by about 12 hours so the certificate is most probably not valid in the future, unless they replace the certificate every day, which doesn't seem logical.

And by this you're implying that firefox is not safe, because that one doesn't have the problem at all

Laptop ?, Desktop ?, Netbook ?, Tablet ?, Smartphone, What difference does it make ?, They're all computers.

Why would (i am assuming your clock) be off by 12 hours ?, Whats wrong with having it display the correct time ?.

Oh, And do you get this problem with Opera if the time is set correctly before you run Opera ?.

Oh two, I never implied anything of the sort regarding Firefox. It is generally known that Opera can be quite sensitive
to certain things like certificates etc. Which a lot of other browsers tend to ignore, Rather than bother the user.

I get it, it is tiresome to read the whole line, so ok, yes if I adjust the time before starting opera it does not have the problem. As I told you before, the clock stops when I switch off the computer so it is generally 12 hours behind, give or take an hour.

I start up my computer and the go do things while it starts up and when I come back opera is started up with all the internet sites I need to check loaded. Maybe firefox has the startup routine where it checks the computertime against realtime and stores the differece in a variable so it doesn't bother the user at all and is still safe.

May I suggest that you configure your OS so that it synchronizes the clock with an online resource. In Windows that is done by clicking on the clock in the taskbar (right hand side), Click "change date and time settings" go to "Internet time" and change the settings to enable it. There are similar settings in Linux (and I presume, Mac OS)

or the browser changed

unplugging all the side stuff and opening the thing up, finding the battery, finding a store that still has them and finding it open after work hours....

CR2032 is a pretty standard size battery found in most desktop computers, Cost about £3-£5 at most, And can be brought from
pretty much any place that sells batteries.

See, There is no excuse.

As for the browser change, That is entirely up to you, No one is forcing you to use Opera, Or any other piece of
software. But to blame a hardware problem (dead battery) on a piece of software that works fine with the time
corrected, Is a bit silly in my book.

But, Ya gotta do, What ya gotta do. And the choice as they say, Is yours.

new version is cool, all I have to do is reload the website after I changed the time, I don't have to restart opera.
