How to disable Java
There is a vulnerability in Java that makes computers open to attack. I want to disable Java. I believe this is is done through tools/advance/plug-ins. There are two Java related plug-ins.Java Deployment Toolkit 6.0.310.5 and Java(TM) Platform SE 6 U31 .
Is this the right place to disable java and do I disable both of these plug-ins?

Sorry to be so remedial here. I, too, read about the Java vulnerability and came here looking for how to turn off Java. CFPCT, above, says to go to "tools/advance/plug-ins". But I see nothing called "tools" anywhere in my set-up. I've looked in the "O" menu, and tried using Appearance to turn on all the toolbars... still nothing called "tools." I've looked in About:Config and did a quick-search for "Java" and found only JavaScript entries; a search for "Java " returns null. In "O"-->settings-->preferences-->content there's an option to shut off all plug-ins or for plug-ins on-demand. But that seems a littl too broadbrush, no?
So, sorry, but if I'm looking for control over plugins, where will I find them? thanks!

Awesome, yes, that took care of it... "Show Menu Bar."
Since most over everything in the menu bar also shows up in that "O" menu, It would be great if "Tools" were there, too. But, anyway, this worked. Thanks!

A better way is to type in the address bar opera:plugins then you can see what is listed. Find all Java plugins usually 3 of them and disable.
OPERA 12.02 - Build 1578 - 64 bit
Windows 7 SP1 Home Premium 64 bit O/S

Only if you don't activate the plugin...
To previous posters ... I usually link directly to opera:plugins to avoid any menu questions.

Java 7??
I have Java 6 and I have automatic update enabled. I wonder why it have not upgraded to version 7, or at least mentioned 7.I believe 1.7 and 7 must be the same thing.
No one - not even the Java people - have recommended me to upgrade from 6 to 7. So I guess I'll still use 6.

Thanks, that's a useful link. I am interested in disabling Java and only keep it enabled for certain websites such as banks. But I can't do that? It seems like Java is either enabled for ALL websites, or disabled for ALL websites. Not much control.

Is there a way around this?
