To be clear, you want messages that are automatically marked as read to not trigger the new mail notification (and status in the systray)?

I can see it both ways. On the one end, a new message that's automatically marked as read is still a newly-received message. On the other, I can see some not wanting to be notified about those messages.
So, for Opera's current behavior, it seems correct for Opera given the way it process new messages (automatically mark as read by a label isn't the first thing that's processed for the message). But, perhaps it'd be better the way you suggest (at least as an option).
I don't feel strongly either way on this.
I manually mark all incoming as Read when I select them to read. BUT, to stay on-thread here, I have the opposite problem with 12.02
Often I will hear the boing of incoming mail, but the Tray icon does not change to a number. When I maximize Opera, the mail is marked as Un-read in the listing.
