What is an Opera Mini "Handler" edition? My Mini 4.2 Java install developed a problem where it always installs itself every time I start it. Searched google about this and only answer I could find was reinstall it.
I want to download 4.2 for Java again but all I can find on the web is “4.2 Handler edition.” What is a Handler edition? I googled this and can find no explanation. Is it different from a 4.2 regular edition?

the ans to your question is: it's an unauthorized, modified version. The version you asked for, to reinstall, can be found below (it obviously is not at the link the other guy left), tho you didnt say what the exact version was. If you can, check the "about" info for the 1 you have & then match up. If not, well..they're all there to try! Also, most likely, when u went to the m.opera.com, it gave you a higher version to use for your phone, no? If so, why not try that? Hope this helps..
Thanks for this. I'll just try the most recent 4.2 build. I DID install 7.1, but it runs too slowly on my phone. And 4.4 gives me another problem that I wrote about on another thread.
Oh...and what about 5 or 6?

No, I saw that link. It doesn't seem to have any solutions except to reinstall, or maybe revert to factory settings on the phone which would be a huge hassle.
thanks for your other link to 4.2
Also, i meant version 5's or 6's to try...? (u said 7.1 was too slow 4 ur phone, so what about everything in between what uv tried & 7?)
also, have u been overwriting or uninstall/reinstall? I can categorically say that at least in some cases of corrupted browser or associated files, that an overwrite, w/o an uninstall 1st, will result in the same bad behavior. My 6.5 worked perfect for a yr & a half, then seemingly outta nowhere, it began the: won't load past 80% on loadbar fault". I tried everything i cud figure for 3 mos, in vain, until I, 1) found a copy of orig, unmodified, 6.5 & 2) uninstalled the faulty one 1st, then reinstalled. Bingo! (when i simply tried to overwrite....even any version of 6.0, 6.1, 6.5, & even tho i successfully got all 3 to install, the SAME issue/fault was still present. So that mean an ASSOCIATED file had bcome corrupted, not the browser itself. Maybe u did it right, this might help someone else...
As to the scroll issue, i dont underst why the opera guys dont chime in w/some advice...?? I suppose u should report it as a bug. Perhaps one of the "handler" versions might resolve?
*incidently, out of curiosity, and since ultimately, the solution may have to be a phone reset (as i noted, sometimes there are more than 1 or full level of reset), why wud it be such a major hassle?.....keeping in mind: "link/sync", "saved pages, "notes" & "speedials", plus any possible other backups u may have?

All the versions are doing the same thing as 4.4 -- showing a cursor which can only scroll down painfully slowly. So it seems I will never recover this desired scrolling behavior.
That depends entirely on device's default capabilities like bitmap compression, CPU class or heap size. Quick tip: use a single column view.

ILLEGAL!!??... hahaha.... OH NO!.... so what happens...the opera POlice arrest you on a charge of aggravated use of a more useful browser... and da judge sentences you to 3 1/2 - 5 yrs of guaranteed bugs in your browser? Hell, I can do that standin' on my head....am ALREADY USED to it!

As you can guess some preloaded versions of Opera Mini are modded which can infringe the legal rights of the copyright owner if the user must pay for this kind of services. The best modders are russians, others will resume that only to free browsing without fees for globe/smart operators - it's more like a hacking game for stupid people.
Being poor doesn't automatically makes you stupid. England has very mobile high rates, but low misery. Try another country before you call people stupid, stupid.
There is few you can do with handler that hasn't been done already with official software. You had better stay away from handler if you don't know what it is for.
As mentioned, 'handler' edition is for moroners (for boys and girls if you prefer). It's true that some russians consider their modifications necessary and rather for 'advanced' users up to a point but that doesn't agree with handlers epic fail. To modify normal conditions in between operators and a server remote is without purpose and can have a negative impact to pages loading time overall with global remote.
It's realy ILIGAL...
